Over 20 sheep have died after ‘suffocating and panicking' during a suspected incident with a dog in Wales.

North Wales Police said 22 ewes and lambs died in a lambing shed at a farm in Llannefydd, Conwy County, sometime between Monday evening (February 5) and Tuesday morning (February 6).

Officers suspected a dog had entered the shed and pushed the flock into a corner of the pen.

Policed said the ‘stress' of the incident - adding to the time the sheep had been penned in a corner by the suspected dog - had ‘suffocated' and killed them.

Farmers in Llannefydd have been warned by North Wales Police to remain alert to further incidents of this nature.
