STIRLING BULL SALES: Salers realise 8,000gns

Salers sold to a high of 8,000gns, to an average of £4,935, up £1,406 on the year, and finished with a clearance rate of 73 per cent for the 16 bulls sold.

It was the overall and intermediate champion, Strathallan Navigator, which led the breed.

The April 2018-born Seamore Kawasaki son was bred by Murray Lyle, Dunblane, and is out of Whitebog Fantastic daughter, Seamore Jenna.

It was knocked down to the pre-sale judge W. Aitken, Carlopshill.

Making 7,000gns was the reserve overall and senior champion, Rigel Nirvana, from Rigel Pedigrees, Yarn.

March 2018-born, this son of Rigel Byron Poll, out of Casimir daughter, Rigel Desire Poll, went home with Robert Mackie, Motherwell.

Junior champion

At the same money was the junior champion, Cumbrian Nadal Poll, from Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk. By Ideal and out of Cumbrian Hyacinth 661, the June 2018-born bull was bought by W.N. Douglas, Selkirk.

Next, at 5,800gns, was Drumaglea Natural, a Halley son consigned by P.A. Boyd, Isle of Tiree. April 2018-born and out of Drumaglea Yo-Yo, the buyers were A.V. Hamilton, Dumfriesshire.

Reserve intermediate champion, Cleuchhead Noah, followed at 5,500gns. From R. and K. Livesey, Melrose, the April 2018-born son of Cleuchhead Dick Dastardly, out of Cleuchhead Merry 15, sold to G. Brown, East Lothian.

Two more bulls made 5,000gns. The first to sell at this money was Whitebog Nobleman, a March 2018-born bull by Seawell Jewel, bred by A. MacKenzie, Fortrose.

Out of Whitebog Gwen, it sold to G.T. and S. Coghill, Orkney.

The reserve junior champion, June 2018-born Darnford Nelson, sold at the same money. Consigned by David Watson, Banchory, and by Fangio, it was bought by the Scottish Government Bull Stud, Inverness.
