Limousin triumphs again at Edenbridge and Oxted

For the second year in a row, the three-year-old Limousin heifer Brockhurst Upandcoming by Goldies Relish, owned and bred by W.J. and M. Mash, Chesham, took top honours in the beef section. 

Inter-breed judge Brian Wills, Kinross, was very impressed by the quality of the entries presented before him and described his champion as an easy winner and an outstanding example of the breed, with tremendous height for a three-year-old and an impressive bull calf at foot. Having been inter-breed champion at Bucks County Show a few days earlier, it will be going on to Newbury Show later this month. 

Reserve beef inter-breed went to William Glover, Yeovil, with his home-bred Charolais senior heifer, Starlight Vimpto by Brampton Splash.

The male beef championship went to Messrs Mash with their Limousin junior bull, Brockhurst Ares, with reserve going to S. and G. Hartwright, Wantage, with their junior Hereford bull, Spartan 1 Carlisle.

Dairy

In the dairy section, the supreme championship, judged by Duncan Hunter, Hertfordshire, went to John Smith, St Osyth, with  Libertyview Brady Raven, a sixth calver from his Wigboro herd.

The reserve champion, also from Mr Smith was the any other breed champion, a senior Ayrshire cow.

In the dairy section judges in the breed classes were all impressed with the numbers and standards of the cows put forward saying it was one of the best turn outs of cattle anywhere in the country.

Sheep

With more than 1,000 entries, sheep numbers were up again, and additional marquee space was required to prevent entries being closed early.

Supreme pedigree champion, judged by Benn Lugsden, Suffolk, went to Grace Bretherton, Lancashire, with a Kerry Hill shearling ewe. A Blue Texel shearling ewe from Sam Hale, Hertfordshire, took reserve. The judge described his champion as a very smart example of the breed and really well marked.

Pigs

The supreme champion pig, from Wakeham-Dawson and Harmer, Lewes, was the July-born Welsh gilt, Offham Theresa 67.
Standing reserve was another July-born gilt, Tedfold Lena 274, a Duroc from D. Giles, West Sussex.
