Whatmore leads Welshpool Dutch Spotted
Bidding at the Dutch Spotted Society show at sale at Welshpool topped at 6,000gns for a shearling ewe from Steve and Sara Gibbons' Tregoyd-based Whatmore flock.
Sale leader Whatmore Hassle, by Whatmore Forty Winx and out of Whatmore Echo, a Glencoy Chance daughter out of the 20,000gns Candy Floss, was bought by Tom Buckland, Abertysswg, Caerphilly, for his McLaren flock.

A 3,200gns bid secured the day's champion, Aberhonddu Iconic Lady, a ewe lamb from Darren Witcomb and Cara Morgan, Garthbrengy. By Merryboro Hanky Panky and out of Diamond Finnley, it sold to the pre-sale show judge Tracy Evans, Cantref, to join her Beacons flock.
Next and topping the male trade at 2,400gns was overall reserve champion, Cnwch Hedgehunter, from A.R.P. and D.R. Wilson, Llanbister, Powys. A Cnwch Emilio son, out of the imported dam Emerald, it sold to G. Williams, Derwen, Corwen.
Winsfield Icon, a ewe lamb from J. Bowen, Llanwern, sold for 2,000gns. By imported sire Rotterdam, out of Saint Clear Faas 4, it also sold to Tracey Evans.
Another ewe lamb, Whatmore Itch, from Messrs Gibbons, made the same money. This one by Glencoy Chance again sold to Tom Buckland.
Messrs Gibbons also led the bidding in the ram lamb section with an 1,800gns bid for Whatmore Ice-man, which also went home with Tom Buckland.

Hot competition at Darlington young handles event
Competition was fierce at Darlington's Super Singles junior handlers prime lamb competition, judged by Wendy Hanson, Guisborough.

The championship rosette this year went to nine-year-old Katie Walton with her winning 44kg Beltex lamb which sold for £250 to Andrew Atkinson for Hartshead Meats, Ashton Under Lyne. First time competitor 11-year-old Luke Bell-Percy took the reserve ticket with a 52kg Texel lamb which sold at £272 to Worsley Wholesale, Liversedge.
Darlington's weekly sale of prime stock took place on the same day, where prime bulls took a jump with all classes up 10p/kg to the sale average 338p/kg and £2,861. A total of 28 bulls passed the 400p/kg mark, with the top four selling for more than 420p/kg. Leading at 429p/kg was a 775kg Limousin from A.G. Watson and Sons, Nunstainton Grange. Among the clean cattle, steers averaged 404p/kg and £2,680 with heifers at 426p/kg and £2,485. Topping the day at 480p/kg were two Limousin heifers from Five Houses, Hutton Rudby.

Breeding sheep in demand at J36
At the annual show and sale of breeding sheep at J36, the show and sale of Mule shearlings saw a catalogue entry of 2,628 North of England Mules sell. Judge Shane MaGill backed his judgment, purchasing the first prize pen from T.H. Gibson and Son, Staveley, at the day's top price of £340. A run from J.S. and K.M. Wilson, Kendal, sold to £295, with others to £285 from J.M. Mawson, Cleator Moor, and £285 twice for Messrs Whittaker, Millom, and a pen at the same price from N. Barker, Dalton.
Good quality continental and Suffolk shearlings were also good to sell, with Suffolks peaking at £390 for a pair from J. and C. Airey, Ulverston. Texels topped at £355 for the champion pen of ten from J.R. and L.A. Capstick, Killington.
In the breeding ewe section, North Country Mule ewes sold to a top of £275 for one crops from Messrs Mawson, with other two crop ewes selling to £260 from F.I. and M.E. Little, Barrows Green, and one crops to £260 from T. Sharp, Levens. Two crop Rough Fell Mule ewes from M.J. and J.D. Handley, Sedbergh, sold to £235. Older ewes sold to £220 for three crop Mules from T. Edmondson, Ulverston, with four crops selling to £205 from J. and R. Armitstead, Docker.

Ingleview tops at 11,000gns
An 11,000gns bid led Robert and Elaine Butterfield's Best of Ingleview sale, in which a major portion of their herd went under the hammer at Linghaw Farm, Bentham, Lancashire.
Top price at 11,000gns was second calver Ingleview Adore Dandy, purchased by Richard Lucas of the Meinspride herd, Blackburn, and John Sanderson at the Sandcrest herd, Kirkham.
At 8,500gns was Ingleview Bevin Sidekick, the All Britain senior two-year-old in milk champion last year, which sold due with her second calf in October to Messrs Jackson, Holywood, Dumfries.
A 7,200gns bid secured Ingleview Loyall Gail, last year's All Britain junior heifer champion, which sold to Alan Timbrell, bidding on behalf of a client and Brian Moorhouse of the Aireburn herd, Skipton, gave 7,000gs for Ingleview Adore Rose.
At 6,600gns was Ingleview Ruth Adorable, which sold to C. and S.A. Brassington and Son of the cracking herd, Telford.
A 6,000gns bid topped the calves on offer for Ingleview Detective Blexy 2, which sold to L. Lancaster.
The sale also included the dispersal of the Toobees Jersey herd, many owned in partnership with Tony Burton, which topped at 7,500gns for the calved heifer Ingleview Victorious M Jane, out of a Bluegrass dam, which also sold to Messrs Jackson.

Sedgemoor dairy in demand
Sedgemoor's August dairy offering saw trade peak at £3,727.50, with 17 lots selling for more than £3,000.
Sale leader was Addison Blue Iris 218, a heifer from David and Ian Chave's Somerset-based Peacehay herd.
The Chave family led the day's trade, consigning the day's top sellers which included their second lactation cow Denver Peach 3 which sold for £3,570 and calved heifer Sid Squaw which made the same money. Their consignment of five achieved a £3,465 average.
Calved heifers from Dimond Farming, Sherbourne, sold for £3,360 as did Clenchers Donte Whiteheather 2 from Rea and Son, Herefordshire.
The Laker Farm Partnership, Surrey, continued their phased dispersal with commercial recorded cows selling to £3,412.50 for a July calved Boghill Glamour Santos daughter and another fresh second lactation cow at £3,360.
A call of £2,992.50 led the in-calf heifers for the Red and White Otterwyn Diamonback Softee Red which was part of the continued phased dispersal for R.G. Bowditch, Honiton, Devon.
Youngstock sold to £1,365 for British Friesian bulling heifer Buston Danni 9, part of the last consignment to conclude the Buston Dispersal for R. and R. Gardiner, Oxford.

Willsbro dispersal sells to 6,200gns
The Willsbro August dispersal of 200-head in-milk and/or dry cows and heifers on behalf of Wills Brothers, Pawton Dairy, Wadebridge, on-farm at Pawton Dairy sold to a 6,200gns high with many others making four figures.
Sale leader was Willsbro Ranger Okity Red 4576, a 3star Oh Ranger Red daughter, out of Sh Okity Red, which sold in-calf with its second to S-SI Siemers HS Comrie. The buyers were J.S. Bird and Son, of the Bartonwood herd, Axminster.
A 4,800gns bid secured second-calver Willsbro Lambda Ghost 3477. This one by Farnear Delta-Lambda sold to an undisclosed buyer.
Sixth calver Willsbro Dynasty Rhapsody 5449 made 4,200gns. A Farnear Delta-Lambda daughter, it sold to J.C. Palmer, Chulmleigh.
Another due in-calf with its second to S-SI Siemers HS Comrie, Willsbro Hullabaloo Adina 4345, sold for 4,000gns to W. J., J. M. and M. J. Elliott, Holsworthy, with Willsbro Hullabaloo Adina 4495, another same-way-bred animal due with its second to Wescoast Midmarch selling to Martin Evans Farming, Oswestry.
The same buyer also paid 3,800gns for Willsbro Sidekick Boegin 3995, another which sold due in-calf with its second to Westcoast Midmarch.

Centre record for rams at Tenbury August sale
Trade at the August Tenbury sheep sale of store lambs, ewes and breeding rams remained steady, although store lamb numbers were reportedly back and in proper store condition on account of the dry conditions in many parts of the country. The few pens of stronger well fleshed lambs sold to £180 for a Blue Texel cross tup lamb from Julian Wright. Phil Wildig sold his pen of 33 Texel/Suffolk cross mixed lambs at £163 whilst Sue Breakwell sold her pen of Charollais cross mixed lambs at £160. The better quality stronger mixed lambs in store condition mostly sold from £130 to a top of £136.50 for a pen of Texel cross from Robert Barnett.
Among the ewes and the North Country and Cheviot Mules reportedly met a larger following and improved trade on the year, as did the strongest Suffolk cross, while the Texel cross were a more selective trade. Best Suffolk cross yearlings sold from £240 to £255 for the champion pen from Robert Handley with Edward Lewis selling his strong pen at £248. Lighter weight Suffolk cross yearlings sold from £170 to £220. Best Texel cross sold from £222 to top at £242 from Stephen Jones with lighter ewes from £155 to £200. Best North Country Mule yearlings topped the sale at £265 from Les and Tim Yarnold with other best ewes from £245 to £260 with lighter sorts from £220 to £235. Cheviot Mules sold from £235 to £260 for a pen from Les & Tim Yarnold.
Cull ewes toped at £190 for Shropshire's, with Suffolk cross selling at between £161 to £180, Texel cross from £142 to £158 and North Country Mules from £130 to £161.
In the ram section, a Texel shearling from Tom and Ann Durston-Smith topped at a new centre record of £840, with other Texel shearlings selling to £651, £525, £441 and £231. Suffolk shearlings sold at £420 and £304.50.

Four top £4,000 in Gisburn dairy sale
A top price of £4,100 was achieved twice in Gisburn Auction Marts' third sale of the month, with another two at £4,000, and all those in-milk from the 100-plus catalogue levelled in excess of £3,000.
Joint sale leader from the Baildon, Bradford-based herd of F. Coates, was Davlea Applicable Ashlyn 2 out of an Abbott dam that had given 14,618kg in her third lactation. At the same price was a Hollinshall heifer from R.C. and S.W. Beecroft, Killinghall, Harrogate. It was a Solarpower daughter out of an 11,153kg dam in the Bessie family.
The first £4,000 bid in the sale came for a 36kg Westcoast Alcove-sired heifer from the Bartle, Preston-based Parkgill herd of J. and A. Parkinson and Sons, this one out of an EX9 dam in the Lizzie family. Messrs Beecroft then had the second £4,000 bid for a Pine-Tree-1 Pursuit daughter from their Deborah family.
Another Solarpower heifer from Hollinshall made £3,900.
Two thirds of the newly calved pedigree entry sold at £3,000 and above, while in the non-pedigree section, a top of £3,850 came for 32kg heifer from Jennings Farmers, Ripon, and D.A. Wilcock, Blackrod, Bolton, made £3,700 for their fresh heifer.
Newly calved cows peaked at £3,500 for a pedigree second calver from F. Yates and Son's Oldham-based Lydgate herd, while another second calver, a Stantons Adorable daughter from A.H. Price and Son, Clapham, made £3,450.

Coco leads Carlisle dairy
The August Border and Lakeland Club dairy sale at Carlisle saw trade top at 5,200gns, with half of lots sold exceeding the £3,000 mark.
The sale topper, Bailmoor BHC Lambda Coco, was consigned by James Robinson, Appleby, and sold to the Baltier herd, Newton Stewart.
Berryholme Holsteins sold four animals to average almost £3,400 including Berryholme Rager Flo 2 which sold for 3,850gns to Messrs Talbot, Preston.
Stowbeck Holsteins sold nine heifers to average £3,091, topping at 3,500gns for Stowbeck Luster Mavis which also sold to Messrs Talbot.
Berryholme Jakers Maud, another from the Berryholme consignment, made 3,400gns selling to West Galdenoch Dairy, Stranraer.
AVERAGES: 6 Holstein cows in milk, £2,913.75; 49 Holstein heifers in milk, £2,942.28.

Averages up at Skipton gimmer shearling opener
The opening show and sale of more than 4,500 gimmer shearlings at Skipton saw averages up across all breeds and an overall average of £233.91. A new mart high of £420/head was achieved for Mule shearlings. This was for the winners of the best pen of 10 from James Towler, Grindleton, which sold to David and Harry Coates, Coniston Cold. T. and S. Binns, Clitheroe, sold their third prize pen at £400/head, with Fox Farm, Clitheroe, selling a second prize pen at £340. Other leading pens included J.W. Hall, Darnbrook, who sold a pen at £320, with Messrs Towler selling a second pen at the same money. North of England Mule shearlings averaged at £226.40, with a rise on the year of between £25 to £30 per head.
Continental, Suffolk and Cheviot Mule shearlings sold to an average of £242 and a high of £360/head for a pen of Cheviot Mules from W.F. Alton and Son, Wetherby, with first prize Cheviot Mule shearlings from George and Henry Hamlet, Chipping, selling at £335/head. A third prize pen of Texel shearlings in the continental section from David Lucas and Stanley Nairey, Blackburn, made £390/head, with the winning pen of 10 from the same home making £380. Suffolk cross Mule shearlings sold to £280/head for G. Wilson, Wreay, and Masham shearlings sold to a section top of £325/head for a pen from W.D. Douthwaite, Harrogate. In the ewe section, one-crop Mules from Messrs Binns sold for £300/head, with one-crop Texels from the same home making £295. D. and S.J. Pinder, Newton in Bowland, sold one-crop Cheviot crosses for £280 and £270.

Suffolks lead NSA South West ram offering
Suffolks were the trade of the day at the National Sheep Association (NSA) South West Region Ram Sale at Exeter.
The breed achieved a 100% clearance rate for shearlings, topping at 2,700gns for one from Jim and Nicki Hartwright, Worcester, with another from the same home at 2,000gns.
In the Texel bidding, section top at 2,350gns came from F.H. Chave and Son, Wellington, who sold others in excess of 1,100gns. Malcolm and Kim Coumbe, Liskeard, sold one at 2,150gns.
Charollais, also achieving a 100% clearance, selling to a 2,300gns high for Tom Nancekivell, Bude, with the day's pre-sale show champion from Ben and Amelia Watts, Ashburton, making 1,400gns.
Messrs Quick, Crediton, sold Suffolks to 2,200gns with Messrs Derryman, Honiton, selling to 1,600gns.
A 1,050gns bid topped the cross-bred trade for Messrs Quick and Border Leicesters from Sue Martyn, Launceston, sold to 1,050gns and 1,000gns.
Beltex rams, which also achieved a 100% clearance for shearlings, saw Ian Braund, Holsworthy, Devon, take the section top of 650gns.

Alton Muirhouse dispersal sells to £3,700
The dispersal of the organic suckler herd from Alton Muirhouse, Newmilns, on behalf of the Paterson family at Caledonian Mart, Stirling, saw a consignment including 148 cows and 152 calves alongside store cattle go under the hammer.
A £3,700 bid led the trade for an eight-year-old Limousin cow, with other cow and calf outfits selling to £3,550 twice and £3,500 four times.
In-calf cows sold to £2,250 for a Limousin cow, sold six months in-calf to a Simmental bull.
Store bullocks averaged 471p/kg, selling to 477p/kg or £1,860 for a pair of Simmentals. Store heifers averaged 461p/kg, selling to 488p/kg for a pen of four Simmentals and £1,780 for a pen of three of the same breed.
