Officers said livestock worrying is a criminal offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953.

A spokesperson added: "This is not just a threat to a farmer or land owner's livelihood, it is also a dangerous situation for the animals involved, and could lead to more risks if the animals get onto the road.

"Always keep your dog under control around other animals and if you see a dog worrying animals, report it to us."

Anyone with further information on the livestock worrying incident in Meifod should contact police on 101, quoting reference number 24000785899.
