Champion Beef Shorthorn tops Skipton sale

THE pre-sale show champion sold for the day's top price of 6,500gns at the sale of Beef Shorthorns at Skipton. This was the 14-month-old maiden heifer, Highsky Erin's Elizabeth, from Millie Birch, Weston, Staffordshire. A full sister to the 2022 Royal Welsh Show breed and reserve inter-breed champion, the daughter of Carrarock Chalkie out of Caramba Erin's Kiss sold to Mary Cormack, Rougemont Pedigree Livestock, Hereford.
Next, at 6,000gns, was Dale Petula, a 2020-born red heifer by Derwentwood Jagger from Chris Bellerby, Weeton, which sold with a Given Panther-sired calf, and in-calf again to the same sire, to A. and C. Farms, Rutland.
Tom and David Bradley Farmer, Parkgate, Dumfries, sold the third prize heifer, Meonside Catriona Rose - a Crooked Post Tobias daughter - for 4,600gns, also to Rougemount.

The reserve female champion, May 2022-born Meonside Desiree Shuri, from the same home, sold for 3,700gns to the Holgate family, Rathmell.

The Thompson family, Whitby, led the in-calf heifer trade at 3,400gns for an April 2021-born heifer by Grinkle Secret Agen, in-calf to Restoration of Upsall, which went to D.R. and R.L. Bowen, Narbeth.

The winner of the April 2022-born heifer class, Secret Maid X1698 of Upsall, from Gerald Turton, Thirsk, was knocked down for 3,600gns to A. and C. Farms.

Averages -  Maiden heifers, £2,647; in-calf heifers, £2,420; cow and calf outfits, £3,955.
