Swaledale rams sell to £42,000 at Hawes

The top price, achieved on the first day was £42,000 for Stonesdale Noble, the third prize winning in the Large Breeders shearling ram class from M.R. and L.E. Rukin, West Stonesdale, which sold to F. and M.P. Allinson and Son, West Briscoe and Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside.

Next at £32,000 was Stonesdale Naughty Boy, the fourth prize winner from the same home which was knocked down to C.R. Raine and Sons, Stanhope Gate.

Making £25,000 was an entry from W.A. Dinsdale and Son, Harkerside,  which went to the partnership of M. and E.M. Wilson, Lunedale, and E. and K. Bland, Cotegill.

Messrs Rukin and B. Thornborrow, Brystone, then paid £18,000 for a ram from Messrs Lightfoot.

The second day topped at £35,000 for Ladybank Dreamcoat,  the winner of the small breeders shearling ram class consigned by R. Hallam, High Birkwith, which sold to E.J. Wear, Howe Green, Messrs Lawson, Hundith,  and G.L. and M.E. Hutton, Setmabanning.

Making the next top price of £33,000 was Usha Gap Setmabanning 7, the sixth prize winning from the large breeders class from T. Metcalf and Son, Usha Gap, which went to Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Lonning Head.

The fourth prize winner from that class, West Briscoe Unique, consigned by Messrs Allison, was knocked down for £28,000 to A.T. and A. Bainbridge, Ash Dub and A. and J. Harrison Beck Head.

Making £20,000 was a ram from R.S. Harker and Son, Kendal, which went to J. Ireland and Sons, Frizington, and Cockbain and Sons, Rake Foot.

 Averages - Day 1 - 193 shearling rams, £2,205.70; Day 2 - 176 shearling rams, £2,484.46.
