Young Farmer Focus: Ellie Browning - 'I have now worked in Agriculture for seven years alongside my school, college and university'

Ellie Browning, 21, is a Crop Input Specialist at Agrii in Kent.

I got into farming through my school young farmer group, attending most days after school and every Saturday.

I have now worked in Agriculture for seven years (going on eight, began at age 14) alongside my school, college and university.

I began working for an agricultural contractor who also had 400 breeding ewes from ages 14-18, I used to work most weekends, holidays and summers operating machines and working with livestock.

I then began working in the dairy industry at 18. I mainly worked on semi-intensive units milking between 180 330 cows, looking after young stock, feeding routines and machinery operations.

In October 21 while I was studying my degree, I decided to go self-employed to find more work and gain more experience within different sectors of the industry.

I studied an agricultural degree at the University of Greenwich which ran its land-based courses at Hadlow College (Kent).

I was studying my agricultural diploma and decided to progress onwards with my degree journey in Kent due to Covid having a massive impact on university life.

Making the best of a not so ideal situation, I went self-employed and gained more on farm experience.

As well as continuing to do relief work for dairy farmers, I began working for arable units and vineyards to broaden my experience and knowledge.

When I finished my degree, the agronomy sector of the industry always sparked my interest and saw an opportunity arise with Agrii to be their Crop Input Specialist for Kent.

My main area of focus is working with Agriis precision software system Rhiza, seed and fertiliser sales for arable, fruit and vineyards.

I am currently in training to become more qualified for my job and, applying my knowledge, I have learned on farms to my everyday workload.

My Instagram handle is The_Farmerette, my main focus is to show people that you do not have to come from a farming background or connections to work and be successful in the industry.

A passionate attitude and listing goes far.
