Added to Makita's 40-volt XGT cordless range earlier in the year, the 4,000Nm nut-busting 1-inch-drive impact wrench is the largest in the manufacturer's range and claims to provide greater torque capacity and operational battery life over any others in the market.
Exclusively using its XGT battery system, users of the more common 18V batteries cannot add it to their workshop kit.

Its main market is HGV tyre fitters, but anyone experienced with changing wheels on a self-propelled sprayer or combine will find use for its 4,000Nm breaking force and 3,150Nm tightening capacity. Weighing around 12kg with battery attached, the unit is comparable to an air-driven version, but without the additional setup of a hose and compressor.
Makita claims it will provide around 200 cycles with a 4Ah battery, with the bare-unit retail price of £670. Like all power tools, a search through various online retailers shows a wide variety of prices, in addition to several bundles including batteries and chargers.
