The sale saw 71 of the 79 bulls forward sell to set a new all-breed UK record average of £13,131.79 – a rise of £4,343 on the same sale last year.

Leading the way was the senior and supreme champion, Goldies Volcano, a 22-month-old entry that carries both the F94L and Q204X myostatin genes from the herd near Dumfries. Selling to a duo of undisclosed buyers, Volcano is by the Ampertaine Gigolo-sired Goldies Juggler, and out of Goldies Redlady which is in turn by the Ampertaine Opportunity bull that has bred so well.

Goldies Vista, 55,000gns

The reserve supreme, junior bull Goldies Vista, sold to Peredur and Llyr Hughes, Pabo herd, Anglesey, for 55,000gns. Out of a different Opportunity daughter in the shape of Goldies Raquel, Vista is sired by Burnbank Sargeant and picked up some top tickets on the winter show circuit.

Goldies Viaduct, 25,000gns

Selling to Colin, Terry and Graham Lewis who run the Garyvaughan herd near Buttington, Welshpool, for 25,000gns, was the reserve senior champion, Goldies Viaduct, which this time is by Ampertaine Opportunity but out of the Ampertaine Foreman-sired Goldies Littlegem.

Grahams Virgil, 35,000gns

Robert Graham, Stirling, saw his reserve junior champion, Grahams Virgil, go under the hammer for 35,000gns. Sired by Ampertaine Elgin and out of the Wilodge Vantastic daughter, Scotchtown Esther, Virgil sold in a two-way split to Stephanie Dick, Ronick and Stephick herds, Stirling, and Balfour Baillie, Sebay herd, Orkney.

Overthwaite Volt, 32,000gns

Carnforth-based father and daughter duo, David and Annie Harker, saw their Overthwaite Volt sell to Craig Ridley, Haltcliffe herd, Wigton, for 32,000gns. It is by Hartsideanew Shearer and out of the Haltcliffe Fencer daughter, Overthwaite Ling.

Averages – 21 senior bulls, £14,340; 30 intermediate bulls, £10,573; 18 junior bulls, £16,660; 71 bulls, £13,1312; 17 females, £4,373.
