Stirling Bull Sales: Limousin trade tops at 20,000gns

Limousin bulls sold to a high of 20,000gns, with 55 bulls sold and a clearance rate of 86%, the trade averaged £9,744, up £2,411 on the previous year

The British Limousin Cattle Society's chief executive, Paul Rainey, said: "There was a very good, consistent show of bulls, and a good commercial show of bulls which is evident in the buyers list."  

Anside Vulcan, a July 2024-born bull from the Irvine family, Drummuir, led the trade at 20,000gns.

The first son sold from the AI sire Deveronvale Razzledazzle, and out of the 16,000gns Procters Rdiamante, it went home with Gary and Diane McConachie, Elchies.

Next at 18,000gns was Westhall Vince, a black bull from Mary Fotheringham and Hazel and Robert McNee, Tealing.

The Newhouse Overfinlarg son marks the family's top price to date for a black Limousin bull. It was knocked down to W. Walker and Son, Ayrshire.

Two bulls sold for 17,000gns.

The first was Dyke Vulcan, from Donald MacGregor, Glasgow. By the 7,500gns Whinfellpark Ohagan, which was purchased at Carlisle and has bred sons to 13,000gns previously, it sold to W. Steel, Lanark.

The next at this money was the overall champion Goldies Vavavoom, from Bruce Goldie, Mouswald.

A son of the 40,000gns Ampertaine Opportunity which has bred sons to 70,000gns, it went home with Staplegrove Livestock, Cullompton.

A further two bulls sold for 15,000gns.

The senior champion Glenrock Vamos, from Thomas Illingworth, Lockerbie, was the first at this money.

The first calf by the home-bred sire Glenrock Stillgame it sold to R.B. Jones and Son, Montgomery.

Wedderburn Vimto from Jim and Sandy Hunter, Huntly, was the second bull to sell for 15,000gns. An Ampertaine Jamboree son, it went home with W.S.L. Muir, Stromness.  

The reserve overall champion, Inschfield Vespa, sold to 14,000gns. From the Davidson family, Insch, the Meadowrig Superstud son placed fourth in the Limousin Grand Prix at last year's Turriff Show. It was sold to Matthew Jack, Fife.  

Another two bulls sold for 13,000gns. A second black bull from the Westhall consignment, Westhall Vulcan, was first at this money. It was knocked down to the Firm of Peter Alexand, Blairgowrie.  

Haltcliffe Vlaimir, from Craig Ridley's Haltcliffe herd, Cumbria, was the second bull to sell for 13,000gns. It sold to K. Taylor and Sons, Perthshire.  

Three bulls were knocked down at 12,000gns. The first was Ronick Vermonic from Ronald Dick, Stirling. It went home with J. Lyon, Isle of Bute.  

The intermediate champion Strawfrank Volvo, from Allan Campbell, Lanark, was next at 12,000gns. It was knocked down to M.J. Agnew, Stranraer.  

The final at this money was from Ian Callion, Stirling, with the May 2024-born Lodge Valiant. By the AI sire Haltcliffe Ben, it sold to J. and R. Mitchell, Perthshire.  

Averages 

55 bulls, £9,744 (+£2,411 on 2025).
