Stirling bull sales: High of 18,000gns three times for Charolais

Charolais bulls topped at 18,000gns three times with the 86 bulls averaging £9,039.77 up £1,062 on the year with a 95% clearance

 British Charolais Cattle Society breed secretary, James Hudson said: "The majority of buyers were from commercial herds. The high clearance rate and the increased number sold is a result of increased appetite for Charolais bulls, given the strong prices being achieved for Charolais sired suckled calves and store cattle."

The first bull to sell for 18,000gns was Glenericht Verdi, an April 2024-born son of Caylers Oxford out of the Caylers Gladiator daughter, Glenericht Ola from W.K. and P. Drysdale, Blairgowrie. The buyer was A.J. McLean, Isle of Tiree.

The next to make 18,000gns was the junior and reserve overall champion, June 2024-born Maerdy Victory by Oakchurch Samson out of Maerdy Montypython sired Maerdy Pretty from Esmor Evans, Mold, which sold to James Jeffrey, Kelso.

The final bull at 18,000gns was Wensleydale Vinegar, an April 2024-born bull by Balthayock Nominee out of Tweeddale Olive, a Goldies Jasper daughter, consigned by David Timm, Seaton Ross. It was knocked down to W.J. Whyte, Fraserburgh.

Making 16,000gns was the reserve senior champion, Balmyle Victory, a March 204-born son of Balmyle Patrick out of Balmyle Nectar from W.P. Bruce, Meigle, which sold to G.T. Wordie, Huntly.

The first of two bulls to sell for 15,000gns was Bombax Viper by Glenericht Ryder out of Ladygill Naughtybutnic consigned by C. Smeaton and Sons, Inverarity, which went home with W.S. Paterson, Kinross.

The other bull to make 15,000gns was the intermediate and overall champion, Inverlochy Vincent, a son of Caylers Napoleon out of Inverlochy Sally which had been reserve junior male champion at the Royal Highland Show. Consigned by J. Irvine and Son, Ballindalloch, it sold to A. Wallace and Co, Newton Stewart.

Making 14,000gns was the reserve junior champion, Inverden Victor, a son of Goldies Rocky from S.A. Allan, Alford, which was knocked down to W.S. Muir, Stromness.

Also selling at 14,000gns to Douganhill Farms, Palnackie, was Elrick Victor by Ballinlare Phantom from Mike and Lisa Massie, Ellon, who also sold Elrick Volt, another bull by the same sire for 13,000gns to J. Stewart, Drumoak.

The first bull to sell for 12,000gns was Bombax Viking from Messrs Smeaton which had been breed champion at Perth Show this. By Harestone Ronaldinho, it sold to J.M. Fisher, Stranraer.

Allanfauld Vantastic, a son of Falleninch Stormzy from Archie and John MacGregor, Kilsyth, also made 12,000gns when selling to R. McNee, Fraserburgh.

Averages – 86 bulls, £9,039.77 (+£1,062 on 2024).

Stock bull tops Glenernan dispersal at 31,000gns

Leading the dispersal of the Glenernan Charolais herd on behalf of Billy and Moira Milne, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, topped at 31,000gns for the stock bull, four-year-old Kinclune Superman by Goldies Lad which sold to Jim Innes, Huntly.
Glenernan Urosie, a September 2023-born Marwood Robocop daughter was knocked down for 21,000gns to J.P. Clark, Strathpeffer.
Mr Innes also paid 16,000gns for the dam of Urosie, six-year-old Glenernan Posie by Elgin Jagger along with its bull calf at foot by Marwood Robocop.

Averages – 14 cows with calves at foot, £7,950; 16 cows, £6,070; 1 heifer calf, £4,200; 7 bull calves, £4,665; 6 younger heifers, £4,760; 2 stock bulls, £19,425.
