British Food Fortnight unites farmers and puts food security under the spotlight

Run by Love British Food from September 26 to October 12, British Food Fortnight aims to bring the food supply chain together to support British farmers. 

Founder Alexia Robinson says: "This year's theme shines a spotlight on food's deep-rooted connections with each of us – the bond that sustains the nation, physically, culturally and economically.

"Against a backdrop of global uncertainty, political pressures, and challenging market conditions, ensuring Britain's food security remains our number one priority."

At the heart of the campaign is a rallying call to back British farmers and celebrate the quality, diversity and provenance of our food.

NFU president Tom Bradshaw says: "This British Food Fortnight comes on the back of a very hard two years for many farmers and growers. Public support means the world to those out in all weathers producing great British food for the nation. This fortnight is a great chance to celebrate all they do, so please show support."

This sentiment is echoed by Shadow Farming Minister, Robbie Moore MP, who says: "From the family farms that have been part of our countryside for generations to our young farmers bringing fresh ideas into the industry, British farming is the backbone of our rural economy.

"This year's Food Fortnight celebrations are bigger than ever, and I would encourage everyone to use this moment to show their support."

Supply chain 

Love British Food's work goes beyond this fortnight, though, working with retailers, schools, hospitals and educational settings throughout the year to encourage the use of British produce, and leading retail partner Morrisons has launched the Community Champion of Change competition, celebrating individuals and groups making a tangible difference in supporting British food.

By supporting the campaign, retailers, hospitality and public sector caterers can showcase their role in ensuring sustainable sourcing, bolster consumer confidence, and champion the future of British agriculture.

For the first time, this year's celebrations will span the four nations; England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with events planned in communities and businesses of all sizes.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support from our partners and Food Heroes who help us amplify the voices of British farmers," says Ms Robinson.

"Together, we can ensure British Food Fortnight 2025 is a resounding success in promoting local, sustainable food."

Food businesses can show their commitment to British farmers by actively participating in the campaign and making British food a top priority.
