New Whiteface Woodland breed record of 6,200
A top call of 6,200gns led the show and sale of registered Whiteface Woodland sheep at Clitheroe, setting a new record price for the breed.
Sale leader was the day's supreme champion, a shearling ram from K.R. and H. Alderson, Leyburn, which sold in a two-way split to C. Campbell, Holmfirth and J. Jones, Machynlleth.
The same home also sold a shearling ram for 2,000gns to R. and A. Crampton, Skipton.
At 1,000gns was one from E. and J. Lees, Shawforth, which sold to J.M. and V. Howard, Holme.
B. Mellor, High Peak, also sold one at 1,000gns to J.A. Moorcroft, Buxton.
Aged rams peaked at 3,000gns for one from Messrs Lees which sold to E. and L. Sutcliff, Hebden Bridge. The first prized aged ram from P. Thorp, Halifax, sold for 900gns to S. Burford, High Peak.
Ram lambs sold to a 320gns high for K. Lucas, selling to A. and G. Beaumont, Halifax.
In the female section, the champion pen of six ewes from C. Mitchell, Holmfirth,
topped at £270/head, selling to T.C. Lord, Langcliffe.

Bluefaced Leicester set new centre record at Ballymena
A ram lamb, Temain V001 from Graham and Julie Lougher, Limavady, Co Londonderry, sold for 28,000gns at the Ballymena ram and demale sale setting a new centre record price for a Bluefaced Leicester ram lamb. By Yore House Maverick and out of a homebred ewe, it sold in a three-way-split to William Adams, Co Antrim, Alistair Christie, Co Antrim, and Michelle Wright, Co Antrim, with the Lougher's retaining a share.
Another ram lamb from the Temain pen achieved the day's next highest bid at 18,000gns. This one by the 2024 Ballymena champion, Knockstacken Rolex out of a home-bred ewe, sold to Robert McTurk, Castle Douglas.
Timothy Wray, Co Antrim, sold two ram lambs at 6,500gns and 6,000gns. It was his second lamb in the ring by Overburns Farm Hitman out of a home-bred ewe that hit the high notes, selling to Christopher Brown, Co Down. Another Hitman son made 6,000gns, selling to Owen and Fran McKenny, Co Down.
Another 6,500gns bid secured a Rocklynn ram lamb from Robbie Topping, Co Antrim, with Co Antrim-based J. Adams and Sons Holmview pen leader by Drummuck Hotshot also making 6,000gns. Dominic McCrystal, Co Derry, also sold his leading Drummock lot by a Cottage ram for 6,000gns.
Averages – 207 aged/shearling rams, £1,628.51 (+£177.95 on 2024); 188 ram lambs, £1,527.53 (+ £194.57); 19 females, £563. 68 (+£170.45).

Grove herd dispersal sets to South Devon breed record
A top price of 14,000gns led the Grove herd dispersal of pedigree South Devon's on behalf of A. Scott, Wells Folly, Moreton-In-Marsh, at Exeter which set a new record price for the breed.
This was for Grove Sorrel 129, a two-year-old heifer with multiple inter-breed and breed championship wins to its name which sold to James Warwick for the Broompark Partnership, Week St Mary.
A 10,000gns call came for Grove Primrose 88, a three-year-old cow which sold with its heifer calf at foot, Grove Primrose 100, to Peter and Ashley Rowe, Trewint.
Nigel and Elizabeth Bunkum, Tregarrick, purchased an outfit in Grove Primrose 81 at 7,000gns together with its heifer calf, Grove Primrose 99, at 4,500gns.
The three yearling bulls on offer topped at 4,200gns for Grove Croesus 23, a son of Mutterton Stoke Red which sold to J. and B. Fentem, Alsop-En-Le-Dale.
The pick of the bull calves by Highgate Osiris 2 made 1,900gns, selling to David Irving, Thornhill.
Averages - 40 cows and calves, £5,477.06; 7 2-year-old heifers, £5,280 , 4 yearling heifers, £4,593, 3 yearling bulls, £3,080, 1 senior bull, £2,415.

Brecknock Hill Cheviot average up £320 on the year
Strong demand was seen at the annual Brecknock Hill Cheviot Sheep Society show at Sennybridge, with 17 rams selling in excess of 5,000gns.
Trade topped at 21,000gns for a yearling ram from G. Davies's Panglas flock, Trecastle. A son of the 2023 sale champion, a 20,000gns Aberdyfnant bred ram, it sold to P. and M. Davies, Trallong. The Pantglas pen of 13 rams met an average of £6,291.
The same buyer also purchased one at 16,000gns from I.G. and M. E. Jones, Trecastle.
Another yearling from the Panglas pen made 12,000gns, selling to Messrs Hemmings, Carmarthen, with another from the same home being the first of two to achieve 11,000gns when selling to J. S. Abel, Llanidloes. The next 11,000gns call came from J. R. Joseph, Brecon, who bought one from Messrs Jones.
Another from Pantglas sold for 10,000gns to C. P. Phillips, Sennybridge. At the same money was Llanddeusant breeder, D. K. Morgan who sold one to D. J and M. D. Prosser, Libinus.
Libinus breeders, T. B. Phillips saw a top price of 8,000gns which went to I.G. and M. E. Jones, Trecastle. Another from Panglas selling to Messrs Jones, Brecon for 6,500gns.

Solway and Tyne Texels sell to 10,000gns
The second Solway and Tyne Breeders Club sale of pedigree Texels at Carlisle topped at 10,000gns for the pre-sale show champion Knap Iggy Pop, a ram lamb from Robert Cockburn, Crieff.
By Duncryne Hakuna Matata, it sold to Messrs Tippetts, Shifnal.
D. Kerr Jarvie, Dunblane, sold Duncryne Indiana for 2,800gns. This ram lamb by Hexel Geronimo 2 sold to Messrs Riby and Son, Bridlington.
Another same-way-bred ram lamb from the Duncryne pen, Duncryne Inxs, made 2,200gns, selling to Messrs Fowlie, Aberdeenshire, who also bought Duncryne Iron Man, a son of Duncryne Houdini out of a ewe by Knock Eastwood for 2,000gns.
Also making 2,200gns was Hexel Iron Fist, a son of Hexel Hidden Asset out of a ewe by Haymount Crackerjack from D. and S. Macpherson, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. It sold in a half share to
Messrs Thomas, Llandudno, Conway and Hen Gapel Texels, Gwynedd.
Messrs Fowlie also paid another 2,000gns for Hilltop Innis, a Hexel High Voltage son from Kenny Pratt, Aberdeen.
Top price female at 1,800gns was the winning shearling gimmer from the Garngour flock of J. and H. Clark, Lesmahagow.
This Sportsmans Grand Slam daughter sold to Messrs Wattie, Aberdeenshire.
Another 1,800gns bid from Messrs Haston, Maryport, secured another same-way-bred gimmer from the same home.
Averages - 17 shearling gimmers £966.61 (+£427.25); 74 ram lambs, £1,121.37 (+£355.29).

Middle Ayrshires set new breed record
A new Ayrshire breed record price was set at the major reduction sale of Middle pedigree Ayrshires and Whitford's Red and White herd on behalf of J. Whiteford and Sons, Middle Farm, Ruleholme, at Carlisle.
Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside to watch the new 15,000gns record set, with the overall average for cows and heifers coming to £2,825 with almost half selling for £3,000 or more.
Record breaker and sale leader was Middle Jean KM by Whiteflat King Marty, a son of three time UK Dairy Expo champion Changue Martha. The buyers were Messrs Bryson, Ayrshire; breeders of King Marty.
A total of 82 heifers in-milk were sold, topping at 4,500gns twice. The first was for Middle Elkin KM, a daughter of Whiteflat King Marty which sold to Adam Lindsay, Gretna.
Also at 4,500 was Middle Mae Me, a Moathouse Mighty Eagle daughter which sold to Messrs Tinker, Yorkshire.
Middle Mitzy MME sold for 4,400gns to Messrs Danforth, Yorkshire.
Averages - 90 cows in-milk, £2,865.92; 82 heifers in-milk, £2,781.22; 172 cows and heifers in-milk, £2,825.54.

Lleyns sell to 10,000gns high
A top call of 10,000gns led the Lleyn Sheep Society's show and sale at Carlisle.
Sale leader was Bardspark Notorious, a shearling ram by a Farmstock Genetics ram from D. and B. Henderson, Stonehaven. It sold to M. and R. Cursiter, Orkney.
Ian Walling, Selkirk, sold his Royal Highland Show male champion, Eildon Ninja, for 4,500gns. This shearling ram by a stock tup sold to A. and R. Geldard and Sons, Kendal, Cumbria.
I. Slater, Orkney, paid 4,000gns for a shearling ram from Laga Farms, Orkney, with Eildon Nailer, another from Messrs Walling, making 3,500gns to J. Kingan, Dumfriesshire.
C. Davidson, Orkney, sold his pen leader, Skaill Ness for 3,000gns to G. and A. Fort, Steeton, West Yorkshire, with another from Laga Farms matching that bid selling to H. and M. Dugdale, Settle, North Yorkshire.
Females topped at £350 for the second prize pen of five from H. Goldie, Dumfries, which sold to South Dissington Farms, Hexham.
Farmstock Genetics sold their leading pen of five for £320/head to C. Timm, Pickering.
Averages - 95 rams, £1,168.50; 30 aged ewes, £171.25; 636 shearling gimmers, £259.59; 354 ewe lambs, £158.92.

New centre record set at Carlise for Hampshire Down breed
A top bid of 3,500gns led the Hampshire Down Pedigree Breeders sale at Carlisle, setting a new centre record price for the breed.
Sale leader was Llainterfyn Stand Out, a ram lamb by Glanrafon Spare Rib from Steffan Harries and family, Whitland, Pembrokeshire, which sold to Messrs Derryman, Devon, for their Yarcombe flock.
Other high bids came from the female section, with the pre-sale show overall champion, a shearling ewe from Louis and Becky Stainthorpe's Whitby flock, Yorkshire, making 2,000gns. Home-bred by Whitby Dracula and out of a Whitby ewe, it sold to John Grossicks, Dumfriesshire.
At the same money was another shearling ewe from the day's judge, Adrian Rundle, Newquay. A Treworthal Maximus daughter, it sold in-lamb to Treworthal Spartan to Yannink and Nikita Underwood, Somerset.
A third 2,000gns came for the reserve champion, a shearling ewe from Borsey and Sivill and family, Denbighshire. This one by Ballycreelly Shamrock out of a home-bred ewe sold to Ian and Annette Dixon, Lancashire.
Senior ewes sold to 1,200gns for one from Joe and Sophie Diliberos, Northamptonshire. A Dunraven Small Boy daughter out of a Dunraven ewe, the buyer was Bruce Steele, Stirling.
A 700gns call led the ewe lamb section for a Birkhill lamb by Ballycreelly Palermo from A. and E. Stamper, Co. Down, which sold to Harry Elsden, Welwyn Garden City.
Averages - 33 in-lamb shearling ewes, £849.55; 3 senior ewes, £682.50; 13 ewe lambs, £468.46; 6 spring born ewe lambs, £210; 1 shearling ram, £367.50; 3 ram lambs, £1,435.
