Environmental campaigner Chris Packham has made a desperate plea for Diddly Squat farmer Jeremy Clarkson to become a vegan during January.

The aforementioned month has become synonymously known as 'Veganuary', with repeated calls from vegans telling people to 'give up' meat for foods such as Quorn and tofu.

On New Year's Eve, Mr Packham personally invited to 'mentor' the Clarkson's Farm star in becoming a vegan and to enjoy the delights of tofu-butter curries over dinner with him.

His generous offer may come in light of those choosing to keep meat in their diets and, therefore, rejecting a vegan lifestyle.

On February 1 2024, a day after Veganuary ended last year, a YouGov poll found that 91% of 3,017 adults in Great Britain said they had not taken part in the campaign.

Only 1% of those said they did become vegans for the whole month, and only 3% said they only did it for some of the month.

Mr Packham has now extended an olive branch to the former Top Gear to turn towards a vegan lifestyle.

"It is Veganuary which is a chance for us all to explore the opportunities of a plant-based diet and to address some of the problems in the meat and dairy industry," he added.

"Now recently one of my colleagues and fellow broadcasters, Jeremy Clarkson, has suffered a bout of ill-health due to heart disease.

"He has also expressed a dislike for slaughtering animals.

"So Jeremy, I would like to issue you a personal invitation.

"Why not take part in Veganuary this year?

"We know plant-based is a better diet when it comes to heart disease and of course, it completely eradicates the need to slaughter any animals.

"It is a win win.

"I will personally mentor you through the month if you will join in for one of Charlotte (Corney)'s tofu-butter curries.

"I know what you are thinking, but if you had one mate, you would be selling them in your pub in no time at all.

"So come on Jeremy, let's do it for our health, for the animals and for the planet."

Mr Clarkson has not yet publicly responded to Mr Packham's invitation.
