Rempstone flock tops Suffolks at 30,000gns

It was a successful first-time appearance at the Suffolk Sheep Society’s national show and sale at Shrewsbury for Michael Ludgate of the Rempstone flock, Thorne, Oxfordshire, who topped the sale at 30,000gns

The sale topper was a ram lamb by Howgillfoot New Dawn out of a Rookery ewe which sold to James Innes for the Strathbogie flock, Huntly. Another lamb from the pen with the same breeding sold for 16,000gns to Dennis Taylor's Ballynacannon flock, Coleraine.

Overall champion, a ram lamb from the Birness flock which sold for 19,000gns

Making 19,000gns was the pre-sale show champion, a ram lamb from Melvin Stuart's Birness flock, Ellon. By Sportsmans 5 Star out of a home-bred ewe, it sold in a three-way split to Grant Brothers, Newry,  Messrs Dickson, Newry, and Stephen Caldwell, Moneymore.

At the same money was another son of Sportsmans 5 Star out of a Birness ewe, this time consigned by L. and M. Liggett's Carony flock, Co Tyrone, which was knocked down to Myfyr Evans for his Rhaeadr flock, Denbigh.

Two lambs sold for 11,000gns apiece. The first from Stuart Lathangie, Pyeston, was by Sportsmans Masterplan and sold to Arnold Oare's Groes flock, Flintshire.

The other at 11,000gns was the winner of the elite commercial ram lamb class, a son of Sitlow Sambuca from Ben Lamb's Richhill flock, Co Armagh which sold to W. and C. Ingram, Logie Durno.

Completing five-figure lamb prices at 10,000gns was a ram lamb by Sportsmans Golden Moments from D.P. and R.A. Delves' Bridgeview flock, Churchstoke. The buyer was Jed Sharp, Tenbury Wells.

Females topped at 3,000gns for a shearling ewe by Frongoy Rocket from Lilia Hutchinson's Howgillfoot flock, Kirkby Stephen, which sold to I E Edwards, Llanvwchllyn.

Ewe lambs sold to 900gns for the first prize winner, a Richhill Rambo daughter from Messrs Lamb, which went home with Alistair Jackson, Cummertree.

Averages - ram lambs, £2,406.78; (70 per cent clearance); shearling ewes, £1,060.50; ewe lambs, £719.25.
