A council’s decision to ban all meat and dairy products from its meetings menu has been branded a ‘slap in the face’ for local farmers by food and rural groups.

Fruit and vegetable shortages in supermarkets have helped drive demand at farm shops and farmers’ markets, according to the Farm Retail Association.

Industry leaders have issued a plea for support with energy prices to be extended beyond March next year.
