Improved demand for Charollais at Worcester

Averages rose considerably and for more sheep sold at the Charollais Sheep Society's premier sale at Worcester as ram lambs improved by more than £650 and shearling rams by more than £200/head

Robleston Elite, 16,000gns

Helping set a new ram lamb centre record average of £2,123.86 was the sale leader, Robleston Elite, which made 16,000gns for R.G. and R.A. Jones and Son, Haverfordwest. Sired by the 10,000gns Cavick Da Vinci Code and out of a Gwyndy female by Wernfawr Vinnie, this December-born lamb sold to Tom Newth, Prestleigh flock, Shepton Mallet.

Skyefall Enigma, 10,000gns

Hitting 10,000gns was another ram lamb, Skyefall Enigma from Stuart Ramsey, Kelso, which is grand-son of Springhill Adonis being by Skyfall Duke. Selling north to the Carlisle-based Wales family's Thackwood flock, it is out of a Loaningfoot ewe sired by Wernfawr Ace.

Cavick End Game, 8,800gns

The champion, Cavick End Game, followed on at 8,800gns for Mitchell and Elizabeth Britten, Wymondham. Sired by the privately purchased Manor House Destino and out of a Foxhill Va Va Voom daughter, it sold to Michael and Melanie Alford, Foxhill flock, Cullompton.

Messrs Wales received 7,500gns from George Hoggard, Manor House flock, Newark, for Thackwood Enzo, a Springhill Corker son.

Foxhill Destroyer, 12,000gns

Setting a new 12,000gns centre record for a shearling ram was Foxhill Destroyer, a show-winning son of Foxhill Chief from Messrs Alford whose biggest accolade was the inter-breed ticket at Royal Cornwall Show. Bred out of a home-bred Logie Durno Olympian daughter, it sold in a three-way split to Jeremy Price, Stuanton-on-Wye, T. and H. Roberts, Ruthin, and Esmor Evans, Mold.

Thackwood Dominator, another by Springhill Corker from Messrs Wales, sold to Emily Scaman, Hilltop flock, Saleby, for 6,000gns. Its dam is by Thackwood U Corker.

Messrs Alford sold their shearling ram champion for 5,000gns to F.A. Elsworthy, Elsridge flock, Tiverton, with that price matched by the reserve shearling from Adrian Davies' Clyn Coch flock, Llandeilo, which sold to G.I. Francis and Co, Newtown.

Females

Females peaked at 3,200gns for the second prize shearling, a Loanhead entry by Foxhill Va Va Voom from Gregor and Bruce Ingram, Inverurie, which sold to Laura Needham, Sauchen.

Ewe lambs reached 2,000gns three times for Manor House lambs from Messrs Hoggard.

Averages – 88 ram lambs £2,123.86; 35 shearling rams £2,712; 11 shearling ewes £1,603.64; 7 ewe lambs £1,470.
