Charolais record at Welshpool

A new centre record for a Charolais bull was set at Welshpool when 21-month-old Solo Velocity went under the hammer at 16,000gns

The sale, which saw 47 lots average £8,362, was led by the Myerscough Phantom son from C. and R. Currell, Meidrim. The double F94L carrier is out of a home-bred Woodpark Elgin daughter,  Solo Sugar and sold to Messrs Williams, Aberdaron.

Close behind at 15,000gns was Beanhill Vitality, a 17-month-old son of Tweeddale Ringmaster from R.J. and B.E. Kimber, Chippenham. Bred from the Alwent Godbar-sired Beanhill Leona, it sold to R. Jones and Son, Pen Pentre.

A string of five-figure sales from R.A. Owen, Welshpool, peaked at 14,000gns for Trefaldwyn Vinniejones, a Balthayock Rory son bred from a Blelack Digger daughter. It headed home with J. and B. Waughan, Welshpool.

Messrs Owen also took 13,000gns from D.C.M. Andrew, Welshpool, for another Balthayock Rory son,  Trefaldwyn Vault.

W. Evans, Redberth, paid 12,000gns for Trefaldwyn Vice, which is also by Balthayock Rory.

Matching the 14,000gns price tag for Kevin Thomas, Capel Iwan, was  Moelre Van which sold to E. Jones, Llanddeiniolen. This son of Glenericht Springer is out of a Balmyle Impression-bred dam.

A total of four bulls for 12,000gns including the pre-sale champion, Hendy Victorious from J.A.W. Rees, Llanidloes. This Whitecliffe Rocket son sold to Messrs Abberley, Llanyre.

Selling to J. Jones, Llanuwchllyn, was Esgob Virginian, a Solwayfirth Peterpan son from Gareth Jones, Gwynedd.

The last at 12,00gns when sold to D.M. Tudor, Gwynedd, was Caylers Axel, a Goldstar Simon son from Messrs Barker, Nuthampstead.

Females sold to a top of 5,000gns, for the two-year-old heifer, Drumshane Vogue, an Elgin Oliver daughter out of Battleford Snowball from Darren Knox, Colchester. It sold to F. and D.A. Owen, Trewern, Llandegley.
