Harriet Cowan: "Farm24 is showcasing to the general public, over a 24-hour period, what a farmer gets up to"

Farmers across the country are preparing to take part in 24 Hours in Farming this Thursday, on August 7, as the UK's biggest agricultural digital campaign marks a decade of showcasing the people behind British food.

Harriet Cowan, who appeared in series four of the hit Prime Video show Clarkson's Farm, is backing this year's campaign through a new video series produced in collaboration with official clothing sponsor Beaumont & Bear.

Ms Cowan helps to run her family's beef and sheep farm in Derbyshire, and has become a popular voice online for her work in breaking down stereotypes and encouraging young people into farming.

She also works as a registered nurse.

Now, Ms Cowan is calling on the public and policymakers to get behind British agriculture and recognise the work being done in rural communities every day.

She says: "Farm24 is showcasing to the general public, over a 24-hour period, what a farmer gets up to."

Ms Cowan said the Government must act now to secure the industry's future.

"The Government should invest more time and money into farming because we need it.

"It's a bit of a dying industry otherwise."

Hopes for the future

"Going forward, I hope that the next generation of farmers would be recognised more by the public and the Government, especially to put British farming on the map and for people to be aware that we are here."

Ms Cowan has also highlighted the strength of the farming community, something which she says is central to her own farming life.

"Being part of the community is probably the most rewarding part for me," she said.

"You have your neighbours and you're all in tune with each other.

"You can talk and if you're having problems, they'll all be there to help you."

Beaumont & Bear, the official clothing sponsor of #farm24, said it was proud to help share the voices of farmers.

"The strength in the agricultural community is like no other. No matter how tough it gets, know you are not alone."

"It's a real honour to use our platform to stand alongside and champion the farming community – not just today, but always."

Farm 24

#farm24, also known as 24 Hours in Farming, is run by Farmers Guardian and supported by Morrisons, and encourages farmers to post across social media for one day, from 5am on August 7 to 5am on August 8.

The campaign gives the public a real-time look at life on farm and has grown into a powerful platform to showcase agriculture since launching in 2015.
