A lively trade was seen at the Farmers Guardian supported show and sale of 250 head at the Bishops Castle District Quality Cattle Association spring show and sale at Bishops Castle where 20 cattle sold for more than £2,000.

Topping the show potentials at £2,000 was the champion from the Lewis family, Llanidloes. Their 10-month-old 355kg Limousin heifer by their Limousin stock bull, Broadhead Rustic out of a Shadog bred cow, was knocked down to Messrs Brown, Stoke.

Judge, Ellie Hargreaves who made the trip from Preston said: "This classy heifer stood out. She was well proportioned and was correct on her legs."

Champion of the day from the Lewis family


Reserve champion went to the winning steer,  a 300kg Limousin-cross from Bowen and Bowen, Welshpool, which sold for £1,800 to C.R. Roberts, Ludlow.

The Lewis family also topped the store cattle trade at £2,390 with a 530kg 18-month-old Limousin steer which sold to Hargreaves Farm, Preston. They also sold a 15-month-old steer at £2,310 and a 12-month-old steer at £2,260, with 13 of their run of Limousin sired cattle selling in excess of £2,000.

Their top price heifer at £2,170 was an 23-month-old entry which went to  W. Jordin, Staffordshire.

The pen topper for J. H. M. Williams, Llanidloes, at £2,140 was a 496kg 10-month-old Limousin cross steer which was knocked down to P. Hughes, Shropshire.

An 11-month-old steer from R. R. Jones, Powys led their pen at £2,060 joining Hargreaves Farm.
R. R. Jones, Powys, saw their heifers sell to £2,120 for a 475kg 12-month-old which sold to Howells, Shadog, Carmarthen.

D. T. Gethin, Churchstoke, sold a 450kg  12-month-oldheifer to B. Fairclough, Newtown, for £1,980.
