Inheritance Tax: NHS, profitability and protests - what farmers need to know from the last few weeks

With Inheritance Tax still at the core of discussions, and a stream of events over the last few weeks including NFU Conference and the farmer protest in London, here is an overview of the latest news, from the Prime Minister's comments regarding the NHS, to Farmers Guardian's webinar on IHT.

  • PM says public has choice between 'tax break' for farmers or driving down NHS waiting lists

Speaking to Sky News in February, Sir Keir Starmer said it was a political choice. He said you could not have waiting lists coming down while maintaining the 'tax break' for farmers.

He said: "Do they prefer their waiting lists to come down, do they want their mortgages to come down and the economy to start working again for everyone – that is what we are trying to achieve – or do we want to keep a tax break for farmers. You cannot have both."
