A new centre record of 6,500gns was set at the Winter Wonders sale of Suffolk sheep at Monmouth Livestock Centre

The record breaker was the winning ewe lamb and reserve champion, a Crewelands Kingpin daughter out of a home-bred ewe from Dafydd Jones' Frongoy flock, Aberystwyth. The buyer was Phil Poole, Shrewsbury.


The champion was the first prize shearling ewe by Strathbogie Magic Mike and in-lamb to Castleisle Blackadder, from Ross Lawrence's Roundacre flock, Devon. It sold for 1,800gns to M.W. Roberts and Co, Ruthin.

Mr Jones sold the third prize shearling ewe by Strathbogie Rock On Tommy and in-lamb to Ballynacannon Flash Man for 2,400gns to Ioan Rhys Jones and family, Trawsfynydd, with other shearling ewes from the same home selling at 1,850gns, 1,500gns and 1,050gns.

A consignment from S.J. Buckley's Buxton-based Sitlow flock sold to 1,500gns for a Sitlow Clean Bandit daughter by Logie Durno Sunny Bill and in-lamb to Redbrae Russo. It was bought by T.J. and E. Vaughan, Abergavenny, who also took a further shearling from Sitlow, of similar breeding, at 1,400gns.

Ross Lawrence sold a further shearling ewe by Strathbogie Magic Mike at 1,300gns to M.W. Roberts and Co, Ruthin.

Suffolk-based Stephen Cobbald sold a Strathbogie Rock On Tommy shearling, in-lamb to Strathbogie Joel, from his Lavenham flock, at 1,200gns to Mr Jones and the second prize lamb by Strathbogie Joel at 1,000gns to Mr Poole.

Other ewe lambs sold to 2,000gns for a Sullom Simply The Best daughter from Geoffrey Richmond's Sullom flock, Preston, which sold to A. Cross, Barnacre.

M.A. Evans, Rhaeadr, Denbigh, sold four lambs to a top of 1,900gns for one by Dumfell Dynamite, which went to G. Reddaway, Iddisleigh, Devon, with others at 1,300gns and 1,000gns twice.

Averages - 29 flock ewes, £600.67; 60 yearling ewes, £778.05; 43 ewe lambs, £862.22; overall 132, £766.50.
