The Rural Affairs Minister has confirmed there will be specific funding for organic farmers.
The Minister, Lesley Griffiths said she 'absolutely recognised' the case put forward to her by organic farmers, adding "I have identified a small pot of money which I do hope will help."
It was after the Minister, Lesley Griffiths was put on a spot at NFU Cymru conference (November 2) by Welsh organic dairy farmer Haydn Evans who criticised the Welsh Government for providing a cliff edge in funding for organic farmers in Wales.
He warned the Minister, organic producers in Wales would make an exit plan, and it would lead to produce coming over the border from England, rather than being produced in Wales. The nation currently has the highest proportion of land area certified as organic in the UK, but many fear for how much longer.

He said he and other organic farmers in Wales were assured 2 years ago under the Sustainable Farming Scheme consultation document that they would be rewarded for their environmental good. But said this now appeared 'very unlikely'.

Organic farmers will now be eager to find out how much will be allocated to Welsh organic and whether the funding is sufficient enough to support the sector.
