Royal Welsh pig supreme goes to Duroc

Tedford Lena 180 is an October-2022 born gilt by Little Owls Hulk and out of home-bred sow, Tedford Lena 130.

It has had a very successful show season so far, claiming reserve supreme at the Cheshire and Norfolk shows, and is heading to Edenbridge and Oxted next month.

Mr Giles only keeps five Durocs along with Middle Whites and Saddlebacks.

Reserve supreme was awarded to the British Saddleback champion from regular exhibiter David Perkins, Pembroke.

This was Gwyndy Lottie 24, a January 2020-born sow by Prestcombe Guardsman 12 and out of Gwyndy Lottie 22, which is part of his 12-sow herd.

The judge, Steve Loveless, Dorset, who keeps the largest herd of Large Whites in the UK, said: "It was a really enjoyable experience to judge the inter-breed. My champion walked exceptionally well on the best legs in the class. She was a brilliant example of the Duroc breed.

"My reserve matched her in every way, but today she was a little sluggish and lacked alertness."
