The breed record for a Badger Face Welsh Mountain was smashed five times at Brecon.
The final record stood at 2,300gns for a yearling Torddu ram from Gaenor King and grandson, Sean Jeffreys, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
The second prize winner, by the 2022 Royal Welsh Show reserve breed champion was knocked down to Neil Dillon and family, Llangadog.
At 2,200gns was another yearling ram, this time from Aron Hemmings, Llanfynydd, Carmarthenshire, which was reserve male champion at this year’s Royal Welsh, and overall champion in the pre-sale show. The buyers were D. J. and C. Richardson, Chepstow.
Making 1,900gns from the Joseph family, Brecon, was another yearling Torddu,which sold to L. Davies, Llangadog, who sold their best yearling Torddu for 1,800gns to the Joseph family.
Having set the breed record at 1,700gns at last year’s sale, mother and daughter team, Lucy Levinge and Ellie Layton, Vowchurch, sold their best Torddu yearling ram for 1,750gns to J. D. and D. Crimes, Lampeter.
Gaenor King and Sean Jeffreys topped the ram lambs at 1,450gns for the first prize winner from this year’s Royal Welsh Show which went home with Aron Hemmings.
Torddu females sold to 600gns for a ewe lamb from Mr Hemmings which went to N. Tamplin, Caerphilly, Glamorgan.
Shearling ewes sold to 420gns twice, both from the Joseph family, with the first selling to B. W. Watson, Huddersfield, and the other to F. R. Crew, Lockerbie.
TORWENS
Gaenor King and Sean Jeffreys also had the top price of 1,000gns in the Torwen section for a ram lamb by the 2020 Brecon sale topper which had been a class winner at Llanddarog and Lampeter Shows, second at the Royal Welsh and in the pre-sale show. It sold to G. Jones, Carmarthen, who also bought the top priced yearling ram from the same vendors for 750gns.
Leading female trade at 530gns was a yearling ewe from Llandeilo-based Huw and Kate Williams which was knocked down to E. and O. Morgan, Hengoed.
The Williams family then paid 350gns for the top priced Torwen ewe lamb which was reserve overall champion in the pre-sale show, from Dafydd Lewis, Llanwrda.
