The Hughes family are among those heading to the Royal Welsh Show to compete with cattle in the pedigree and commercial classes. Ellie Layton reports

Over the past few weeks, a strong demand for ram lambs has been seen across the country's livestock markets due to an upcoming Muslim festival.

Record numbers of cattle were seen at the Royal Cornwall show with more than 500-head across eight breeds which battled for the prestigious Burke Trophy, awarded to the best pair of animals.

Record sheep entries were forward at this year’s Bath and West Show, with 1,700 sheep battling for the top spot.

The NSA Welsh Sheep event president, Glandon Lewis, gave a powerful speech at the official event opening where he highlighted the future challenges for the industry. 

The NSA Welsh sheep event saw the launch of a national sheep scab eradication programme.

A group of young farmers from across the UK came together for a panel session to discuss their career so far and what they were doing to spread information about the sheep industry to the wider public.
