The Chancellor's proposed changes to IHT loom large over the farming industry whether you own your farm or it is tenanted. This webinar focused on how to navigate the IHT fallout under current proposals and looked to give advice on how to plan your farm's succession to ensure it is in the best position going forward. An expert panel – including Jeremy Moody, secretary and adviser to the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, who has been at the forefront of challenging the Government's figures around the implications of its IHT proposals on the industry – were on hand to answer your questions.

Webinar panel

Olly Harrison

Farmer and entrepreneur Olly Harrison is the face behind popular YouTube channel @OllyBlogsAgricontractfarmer. His daily videos, which he started in lockdown, provide a glimpse into the real-world challenges and triumphs of farming.

Olly was one of the driving forces behind the November 19 London protest and has been a figurehead for the industry as it fights the Government's Inheritance Tax plans, as well as raising the profile of farming's contribution to society as part of Farmers Guardian's Save Britain's Family Farms campaign.

Caroline Squire

Caroline Squire is a rural surveyor adviser at the Tenant Farmers Association (TFA). Caroline is a qualified chartered surveyor and agricultural valuer, and a tenant farmer's daughter.

The TFA's main concern with the IHT changes is that estates will be forced to sell farms to foot the IHT bill, and that means tenant farmers on short-term tenancy agreements are extremely vulnerable to receiving notices to quit so that their farms can be sold with vacant possession.

Jeremy Moody

Secretary and adviser to the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) since 1995, Jeremy liaises with Government on new policies developing across the UK, covering agricultural tenancy and land occupation, taxation, valuation, planning, climate change and environmental matters. He is currently involved in analysis of the effects of the Chancellor's IHT proposals across the UK.

Andrew Robinson

Andrew is an accounting partner at Armstrong Watson who grew up on a large hill farm in North Cumbria and still has an active role on a large beef farm in Northumberland. This gives him a great insight into the issues affecting farmers in their businesses and helps inform his day-to-day work supporting and advising farming businesses and landed estates, particularly on succession and IHT matters.

Mark Charter

Mark Charter is a partner and head of estate management at Carter Jonas, based in Oxford. Over the last 30 years, Mark has worked with a vast range of landowning businesses, from educational institutions to farming families, and specialises in understanding the client and working with them to optimise their holdings, whatever their objectives.
