Glenmarshal heifers top Ladies in Red
TWO heifers from Trevor Shields' Kilkeel-based Glenmarshal herd topped the Ladies in Red Limousin sale at Ballymena. They sold to new breeders Mollie and Matthew Cochrane, Portadown, for 16,000gns and 15,000gns.
Making the top price was Glenmarshal Armani, an August 2025-born heifer by Sunnyside Torpedo, bred from the Ampertaine Magnum-sired Gunnerfleet Pocks.
At 15,000gns was the Carrickmore Schumacher-sired January 2025-born Glenmarsal Allstar, out of Glenmarshal Twilight, an Ampertaine Elgin daughter, which stood reserve senior champion at the pre-sale show.
Lorraine Simmons, Antrim, paid 11,000gns for two-year-old Derriaghy Vogue, a Gunnerfleet Lion daughter from the Green family, Lisburn. Its dam is the Sympa-sired Derriaghy Penny.
Michael and Kile Diamond, Garvagh, sold their Pointhouse Abby for 10,000gns to Seamus Kesady, Co Galway. It is by Foxhillfarm Jasper and out of a Huntershall Overkill daughter.
Two sold for 9,000gns each: Charlottes Melodie from Charlotte Martin, Dromara, which headed to Co Donegal with Desmond Green; and Slieve Abigail, the reserve champion from John and Shane McGeehan, Fivemiletown, which went to Kieran Duffy, Co Westmeath.
Averages: 35 females, £6,500.

Champion tops dairy day at Bentham
A PEDIGREE calved cow stood champion at the Genus Dairy Extravaganza, at Bentham, before selling for the top price of £4,000.
The fresh second-calver was consigned by the Booth family, Wigglesworth, and sold to Brian Mellin, Preesall.

The reserve, a fresh pedigree heifer from Mike Lawrence, Grange over Sands, also sold to Messrs Mellin, this time for £3,900.
A total of 11 cows and heifers made more than £3,000, with the next best at £3,550 also from Messrs Lawrence.
Dave Barton, Kirkby Lonsdale, sold one at £3,500, with one from David Knowles, Kendal, at £3,300 and another from Richard Robinson, Over Kellet, at £3,200.

Kardashian kicks off 10-year celebration sale
A SHEARLING gimmer with a proven show history rose to the top of the Ladies in Blue sale to celebrate 10 years in the Blue Texel breed for Allen Shortt and Samantha Allen, Strabane, Co Tyrone.
Making £9,000 was Derg Kardashian, which was reserve champion at both the 2025 and 2026 Balmoral shows. Sired by the 10,000gns Matt's Jupiter and out of the Derg Enigma, it sold to Messrs Henderson, Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.
Next, at £2,600 when sold to Messrs Mcveigh, Tassagh, Armagh, was Derg Liberty, a January-born ewe lamb by Diamond Jaffa Cake and out of Derg Jessie.
Messrs Welsh, Ballincarrick, Donegal, paid £2,000 for Derg Lossiemouth, which is by Derg Hot-Shot and out of Derg Glossy.
At £1,900 when sold to Messrs Gray, Lindean, Selkirk, was the Derg Jackpot-sired Derg Kaylee, which is out of Derg Enigma.
A full sister named Derg Kallie sold to Messrs Flanagan, Keady, Armagh, for £1,800.

Dutch Spotted sale reaches £1,250 at Hawes
LEADING the inaugural show and sale of Dutch Spotted sheep at Hawes was the first-prize ram lamb from Harvey Capstick, Grange over Sands.
Selling for £1,250, his Cap and Stick Jailhouse Rock is by Blackjack Hulk and out of Grayrigg Foot Emerald Star.
Next best at £1,150 was a shearling ram named Pillmire Itsfiveoclocksomewhere, from R.L. and P. Ridley, Richmond. Its pedigree features Irthing Valley Hells Bells on to an imported ewe, Flymetothemoon.
Females peaked at £1,050 for the overall champion, Top-Notch Icon, from J.G. Atkinson and Y.J. Clark, Hornby. It is by Tiptop Harper and out of Top-Notch Gucci.
Making £800 was Top-Notch Indigo, another Tiptop Harper-sired shearling from Messrs Atkinson and Clark.
Gimmer lambs peaked at £550 for Middlemoor Jayleen, a Milltown Gold Digger daughter from J. Stead, Richmond.

Limousin cross leads Thainstone Spectacular
A YOUNG heifer from Orkney-based Balfour Baillie topped the Thainstone Spectacular sale of exhibition cattle when the February-born entry sold for £8,000.
The Limousin cross which stood third in the show tipped the scales at 330kg and sold to Allan and Susan Campbell, Lochgoilhead.
Next best at £7,800 when sold to BMD Livestock, Huntly, was the July 2025-born unhaltered champion, a Limousin cross heifer weighing 481kg from R. and N. Barclay, Insch.
Claiming the overall championship before selling for £7,500 was a September 2025-born Limousin cross heifer from J. Robertson and Co, Pitlochry. It also sold to Messrs Campbell and weighed in at 486kg.
Selling to David Blair, Newport of Tay, for £6,300 was a 553kg haltered heifer from Cally Harper, Huntly.
The 2026-born champion, a 384kg Limousin cross heifer from James S. Baillie and Co, Orkney, achieved the next top price of £5,000 selling to AJR Farms, Ellon.
Bullocks reached £3,200 for a Limousin cross weighing 294kg from J.S. Baillie which sold to BMD Livestock.
Averages – Heifers, £3,930 or 885p/kg; bullocks, £2,579 or 605p/kg; overall, 31 calves, £3,407 (+£150 on 2025) or 779p/kg.

Heifer duo hit 3,700gns
TWO freshly calved heifers shared the top price of 3,700gns at the collective dairy sale at Sedgemoor where the catalogued entry of 150 dairy cattle was complemented by additional entries.
First at that price was Peacehay Has It All Whitetime 3, a July-calved heifer from F.H. Chave and Son, Wellington, which sold yielding 35kg daily. Its dam line features many cows in the top two classifications and a Ex94-4E third dam that peaked at more than 13,000kg.
Matching that 3,700gns was Clenchers Pauly Bounty 4 from Messrs Rea and Son, Ledbury. This one goes back to a Deman daughter that yielded more than 15,000kg in its third.

Freshly calved cows reached 3,650gns for Beaconhill Hanans Foxy 2 from M.K.J. Reed and Son, Cullompton. Following on from a 11,591kg second lactation, it calved its third mid-July and sold recording 52kg.
In-calf heifers sold to 3,000gns several times for entries from A. and J.E. Fewings' Crediton-based Keevil herd.
The entry of Holstein and cross-bred yearlings and younger heifers from Messrs Skinner and Son, Blackham, reached 1,680gns.

Thornbury's top two Texels
A BRACE of entries from Nick Legge's Thornbury flock, Bromyard, topped the Welsh National sale of Texels at Welshpool when they sold for 1,500gns apiece.
First was the female champion, a Thornbury gimmer by the 42,000gns Ettrick Grey Goose bred from a ewe by Midlock Dynamo. It sold to Gwilym Evans and Son, Caersws.
Also at 1,500gns was the male champion, Thornbury Jethro, which sold to Towyn Developments, Newtown, It is by Plasucha All Star while its dam is by Usk Vale Champagne Charlie.

Next best at 1,000gns was a Brynygroes gimmer from Ifan Andrew, Meifod. Selling to J.A. Williams, Caersws, it is by Teiglum Firefly.
Males also reached 950gns for Partidge Nest Jolly Good, an Auldhouseburn Ghost son from Eamonn Vaughan, Staffordshire. It sold to Tom Evans, Carmarthenshire.

Whiteley Hey hits 4,800gns
A SHEARLING ram topped the 25th annual Whiteley Hey production sale of commercial rams and females on behalf of Paul and Claire Slater, Macclesfield, which took place at Kendal.
The entry of 578 was led at 4,800gns by a Beltex cross Texel shearling sired by a 9,000gns Faughhill ram. It sold to W.P. Hughes and Son, Holyhead.
Next best at 3,800gns when sold to L.E. Lloyd and Sons, Hereford, was a pure Texel shearling sired by the £35,000 Ettrick Gruffalo.
Another the same way bred as the top-price ram sold to A. Sutcliffe, Carlton-in-Cleveland for 3,200gns, while another sold to A.N. and A. Helly, Charvey, for 3,000gns.
Females peaked at £1,300 apiece for a trio of pure Texel shearlings by the £36,000 Teiglum Firefly. They also sold to Messrs Hughes.
Other Texel shearlings sold well with two at £1,050 and another two at £1,000.
A single Texel ewe led the section at £815 while gimmer lambs reached £450 for a Texel pair with another duo at £400.
Averages – 201 rams, £1,333.65 (+79.65 on the year); 59 warranted ewes, £500.32 (+£58.70); 180 shearling ewes, £507.39 (+£114.52); 138 gimmer lambs, £279.25 (+£10.20).

Aberhonddu Dutch Spotted tops Welshpool offering
AT the multi-breed show and sale of pedigree sheep at Welshpool, it was a Dutch Spotted ram lamb that sold for the top price of 3,700gns.
Consigned by Darren Witcomb, Brecon, the Merryboro Iron Man-sired Aberhonddu Jungle George is out of a ewe by Carlaustan Extrovert and sold to J. Turner, Wellington.
Sara and Steve Gibbons, Brecon, sold the dearest of the females, Whatmore Indiana, which is by Whatmore Forty Winx and out of a dam by Whatmore Earshot. It sold to G. Williams, Corwen.
Making 3,000gns when sold to J. Dixon, Kendal, was Dustland Jagerbomb, a ram lamb by an imported sire from Chloe Harding, Cheshire.
A ram lamb from G. and L. Davies, Fishguard, led the Blue Texels when Ty Gwym Lionel Ritchie sold to Rhys Cooke, Nantyderri flock, Abergavenny, for 3,000gns. It is by Matt's Hitman and out of a home-bred ewe by Nantyderri Finest.
Females reached 1,800gns for the reserve champion, Starlight KitKat from Kevin Jones, Oswestry. The Drumard Ed daughter is out of a ewe by Brutey's Blues Fred and sold to the judge, Ben Stayt, Statesman flock, Gloucestershire.
Mr Stayt also bought the champion, a shearling ewe from Messrs Davies, for 1,550gns. The unnamed Ty Gwyn female is by Stephick High Flyer.
The Badger Face Texel section peaked at 2,200gns for the reserve champion, a shearling ewe named Beacons Ginny from Elin Meredith, Merthyr Tydfil. The Knockmult Foden daughter is out of D'Ney Delilah and sold to W.L. Williams and Partners, Blackmill.
The champion, a ram lamb named Celt Hunter from D.T. Jones, Pwllheli, topped the male section when sold for 1,500gns to the judge, Owain Rowlands, Rhayader. It is by Diamond I'm the Ram and out of an imported ewe.

Gimmer leads Allanfauld Glamour Girls
TEXEL females met a 100% clearance in the Allanfauld Glamour Girls online sale on behalf of Archie and John MacGregor, Kilsyth.
Leading the way at £4,900 when sold to Messrs Lewis, Sandbach, was the very first lot, a shearling gimmer by Duncryne Houdini. Its dam by Knap Godzilla is a show gimmer and full sister to gimmers at 20,000gns and 10,000gns.
Messrs Allan, Thurso, paid £3,400 for another Duncryne Houdini daughter, this time bred from dam by Teiglum Exocet.
At £3,200 was a Brackenridge Fly Half-sired gimmer which sold to Messrs Pierce, Chester, while Messrs Pitman and Williams, Marshfield, paid £2,200 for a Houdini-sired gimmer.
Ewe lambs sold to £1,950 for a February-born daughter o the 60,000gns Auldhouseburn In Business Now. It sold to Messrs Leeder, Sherburn in Elmet.
Averages – 10 gimmers, £2,335; 2 ewe lambs, £1,900.
