Inter-breed sheep champion

Inter-breed sheep judge, Willie Thomson, who runs park-type North Country Cheviot and hill Cheviots near Kelso, was searching for quality and style and he selected the Zwartbles as his overall supreme champion. The winning sheep, which had been non-terminal sire inter-breed champion, was a yearling ewe from Peter and Susan Addison's Barnard Castle-based Hayberries flock. Hayberries Nebraska is part of their flock of 50 Beltex and Zwartble sheep. As a ewe lamb, it was reserve breed champion at both the Royal Three Counties and Great Yorkshire shows.

Reserve inter-breed supreme was terminal sire inter-breed and Texel champion, Mellor Vale I Spy from Eamonn Vaughan, of Shropshire's Partridge Nest flock, and Nick Legge, of Herefordshire's Thornbury flock. Bought last autumn as a lamb for 12,000gns from the Boden family, Stockport, it is a son of Great Yorkshire Show champion, Uppermill Highway Express, and is out of a dam by Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi. Earlier this season, it won both the breed and inter-breed championships at Staffordshire County Show.

The reserve terminal sire inter-breed title went to the Dutch Spotted champion, a home-bred aged ewe from Janet Corbett,  Wedderburn flock, Gloucester, who  also secured the reserve breed championship with a yearling ewe.

Inter-breed beef judge and former Scottish rugby player John Jeffery, who runs a 120-head herd of Charolais and Simmental cattle near Kelso, said: "My champion was a classy cow with presence and a bonnie head. She was not over the top, but upright, square and well grown for her age."

Claiming the reserve inter-breed championship was the Limousin bull, Arradfoot Underdog, exhibited by Thor Atkinson, Ulverston. The August 2023-born bull is by Goldies Jackpot. The next shows for the team are the Royal Cheshire and Great Yorkshire shows.

Among the final line-up was the Salers champion Seawell Tabago, a three-year-old bull from Peter Donger, Northamptonshire. By Impecable and out of Seawell Orella, the bull was reserve inter-breed champion at last year's Great Yorkshire Show.

The show hosted the South Devon National Show, where K. Finch, Northampton, claimed the championship with Beckaveans Bardhesow. The bull is part of his 80-head pedigree herd. Reserve champion went to Trewint Chester, bred and exhibited by P.S. and A.P. Rowe, Cornwall. It was the second show of the year for the bull, which is part of the family's 140-head herd. Chester is a son of Trewint Carlos, which has sired the top-priced bull at the breed sale in Exeter for three consecutive years, and it went on to be crowned junior inter-breed beef champion.

Dairy

Claiming the inter-breed dairy title were Jeff, Anthia and Imogen Ward, Newcastle Emlyn, with the Jersey cow, Jubilee Perfect Ceres. The August 2022-born second-calver is a daughter of Tregibby Perfect and out of Jubilee Hazletine Ceres. It was inter-breed champion at the Royal Bath and West Show in May, while at the 2025 Royal Welsh Show it was reserve junior inter-breed champion. The family also run a herd of Wheatfield Red Polls and their next show will be the Royal Welsh Show.
