Increased demand for Limousins at Darlington

All but two of the 32 bulls forward sold to new homes at the North East Limousin Club’s show and sale at Darlington, where five bulls sold for five-figure prices

Dearest at 12,000gns was Barrons Apollo from Willie Barron, Burnhope, a 15-month-old which was knocked down to W.T. Elstob and Son, Stockton on Tees. Carrying one copy each of the F94L and Q204X myostatin genes, Apollo is backed by easy calving lines being by Cornsay Thunder and out of the Barrons Major-sired Barrons Sunset.

Just behind on 11,500gns when sold to J.C. Thwaite and Son, Barnard Castle was 18-month-old Fieldson Vanilla, a son of the 25,000gns Glenrock Redemption from the Fieldson family, Gainsborough. Its dam is Fieldson Smoothie, a Trueman Iglesias daughter.

The pre-sale champion, Lissett Vision, from J.H. Tennant, Bridlington, was the first of three to make 10,000gns. Sired by Hamac, it sold to D.W. Humphrey, Guisborough.

Two lots later, Brontemoor Vane from the Priestley family, Brampton, sold to G.N. Potts and Son, Newcastle, for 10,000gns. Its is by Knock Msport.

Messrs Iveson, Hawes received 10,000gns for their Eastshaw Ivantastic-sired Eastshaw Vanra, which sold to R.O. Gilson, Spennymoor.

The club sale of females peaked at 6,200gns for Fieldson Vixen, a February 2024-born daughter of Glenrock Redemption from Messrs Fieldson which changed hands scanned in calf to Fieldson Universe. Bred from a Huntershall Gladiator daughter, it sold to J.R. and G. Walton, Barnard Castle.

Included was the reduction of Johnathon and Suzanne Stacey's Castlethorpe herd from Silchester. Selling for the top price of 7,200gns to Alastaire Brice, Suffolk was Castlethorpe Unique, a Frogmore Royalty daughter that changed hands with its heifer calf at foot by Dyfri Shogun.

Heifers peaked at 4,600gns when A.K. Belfield, Derbyshire, paid that for Castlethorpe Vino which is by the Dyfri Shogun.

Younger heifers sold to 3,200gns for another by the Dyfri bull, Castlethorpe Appy, which sold to G.H.M.J. Samuel, Herefordshire.

Averages – 32 bulls, £6,985.65; 50 heifers, £3,285.45; 22 cows with calves, £6.065.85.
