Gwen makes £19,800 at first Sheep Dog Spectacular sale

The inaugural Sheep Dog Spectacular online sale of dogs was a hit for Harrison and Hetherington when entries met an 80% clearance rate with a top price of £19,800 paid

Making top dollar was a 10-month-old fully trained bitch named Gwen, consigned by Kevin Evans, Powys. Sired by Llanfarian Mirk and out of Cefneithin Roxy, it sold to Messrs Haland Ardal, Varhaug, Norway.

Mr Evans also consigned the second highest priced entry, a red dog named Beacons Griff which was knocked down to another Norwegian buyer, Messrs Skeie, also Varhaug, for £9,200. The 16-month-old Midderry Frank son is out of Dunelle Gwen.

Hitting £7,600 when sold to Messrs Baynes, Croy, by Chris Toner, Argyll, was Nap a son of Reiver Gray which has qualified for the 2026 World Trial and is out of Fraser Shennan's Belle.

Also making £7,600 was Dunelle Flame, a rising five-year-old red bitch by Spot and out of Dunelle Nel, from Rachel Wilan, Cumbria. It sold to Messrs Barker, Fewston.

A total of seven dogs sold for £7,000 or above, including Moss from J. Elkin, Staffordshire. Selling to Messrs Kirkman, Alderwasley, it was another red Midderry Frank son.

Two hit £7,000, first of which when sold to Messrs Wilkinson, Wigton, was Del Marg, a daughter of Roy from Cessenock Sheepdogs, Ayrshire.

Also at £7,000, this time selling to Messrs Jones, Llanbrynmair, was Bec by McHugh Jack from Messrs Carnegie, Perthshire.  

Leading the part-trained section at £3,500 was Preseli Eira, a Kinloch Carlos daughter from Llion Harries, Pembrokeshire.

Kevin Evans also topped the pup entries when his Liz, a Valley View Dan daughter, sold for £2,300.

Averages – Fully-trained dogs, £6,050; part-trained dogs, £2,360; pups, £1,350.
