Charollais centre record set by Edstaston flock

A ram lamb, Edstaston Dakota from Robert Gregory, Shropshire, topped the Supreme Charollais sale at Carlisle at 14,000gns

The record breaker was in the top 25%  of the breed for performance and by Boyo Commander, its dam was a Edstaston ewe, with Knockin Shockin and Edstaston Maddison in its pedigree. The buyer was Will Whiting, Liskeard, for the Fursdon flock.

The second prize winning ram lamb, Thackwood Duke by Thackwood Bangkok,  Messrs Wales, Raughton Head, sold for 3,200gns to Messrs Radley, Dumfries and Messrs Andrew, Ayrshire.

The reserve pre-sale show champion was a shearling ram from the Loanhead flock of Gregor and Bruce Ingram, Aberdeenshire, which sold for 3,000gns to F. J. Tombs and Son, Aylesbury.   

Paul Curran, Brecon, also took 3,000gns for Wernfawr Dynamite, a Glyn Coch Ace son out of a ewe by Glyn Coch Night to Remember which sold to Madrun Parry-Jones, Anglesey.
Another from the Wernfawr pen, this time a son of Crogham Hannibal II, sold for 2,200gns to Messrs Davies, Aberdeen.

The sale also featured animals from Northern Ireland, sold via a video link. Topping this section at 2,000gns was a shearling ram, Springhill Cantona by Boyo Bravemansgame from Graham Foster, Newtownstewart, which sold to Adam Richardson, South Yorkshire.  Mr Foster matched this price with a ram lamb, by Springhill Crackerjack bought by David Argue, Cavan.

Another ram lamb that sold via video was the first prize ram lamb from this year's Balmoral Show. Hillside Dare Devil by Thackwood Braveheart from Alistair Moore, Ballymenam, which made 2,000gns to Gary Goulden, Sligo.  

Females sold to 2,200gns for a shearling ewe sold via video from Glen Baird's Aghavilly flock, Armagh, which was bought by Gillian Harte, Co Monaghan. The leading ewe lamb from Jonathan Aiken's Carnew flock, Wigton, which made 1400gns selling to Robert Towers,Carnforth.

Averages: 2 shearling gimmers, £1,496.25; 2 ewe lambs, £1,260; 1 aged ram, £1,680; 4 shearling rams    , £1,968.75; 45 ram lambs, £1,612.80.

 Logie Durno and Loanhead production sale tops at 4,000gns

The production sale from the Ingram family's Logie Durno and Loanhead Charollais flocks, Aberdeenshire, was led by a shearling gimmer by an Iskeymeadow bred sire which sold for 4,000gns to Tom Newth, Somerset.

Next at 3,200gns was a Cavick Blood Diamond daughter out of a ewe by Logie Durno Jackpot which went to Messrs Brown, Skipton and Messrs Mason, Lancaster. They also paid 2,600gns for another Blood Diamond daughter.

Another by the same sire sold for 2,500gns to Kathyrn Dick, Falkirk.  
Ewe lambs sold to 2,000gns for a Cavick Balenciag daughter which was knocked down to Helen Sloan and Hannah Jackson, Rigghead flock, Dumfries.

Averages: 58 shearling ewes £1,366.81; 4 ewe lambs £1,627.50.
