Limousin bulls top at 25,000gns at Carlisle

Topping the show and sale of Limousin cattle at Carlisle at 25,000gns was the intermediate and reserve overall champion, Bernish Unstoppable, from K. McCroy, Omagh, Co Tyrone

The sale leader was a May 2023-born son of Goldies Goldfinger out of Bernish Roslyn, which carries double F94L genes and sold to Smith Farming, Nash, Buckinghamshire.

This was closely followed at 24,000gns by the reserve senior champion, April 2023-born Lissett Ultimate by Lissett Osten out of Lissett Rhonda consigned by J.H. Tennant, Bridlington. It was knocked down to Messrs Nimmo, Wishaw, Midlothian, who then went sell first prize winner, July 2023-born Maraiscote Upshot by Bassingfield Machoman out of Maraiscote Jellybelly, for 20,000gns to Messrs Adam and Son, Forfar.

Lissett Ultimate

Messrs Mash, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, then also paid 20,000gns for first prize winner, Wilodge Ubet, an April 2023-born bull by Ampertaine Elgin out of Wilodge Littlegem, from the Wilodge herd, Shifnal.

Also selling for 20,000gns was the reserve intermediate champion, Shaws Umpire, a June 2023-born son of Goldies Jackpot out of Gunnerfleet Nibris from M. and F. Burns, Maybole, which sold to Messrs Fieldson, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.

Three bulls sold for 18,000gns apiece. First was another red rosette winner, Ampertaine Urban, a March 2023-born bull by Ampertaine Elgin from W.J. and James McKay, Maghera, Co Derry, which went to Messrs Pearson, Buxton.

Next at 18,000gns was the senior champion, Garrowby Umbongo by Grahams Rooney from Garrowby Farm, York, which sold to Messrs Moir, Fraserburgh. The final bull to make 18,000gns was another first prize winner, Maraiscote Ukraine, a son of Sliabh Felim Mourinho from Messrs Nimmo, which went home with Messrs Richards and Son, Maesteg, Mid Glamorgan.

Females

Females topped at 16,000gns for Huntershall Ursula, an April 2023-born heifer by Milbrook Playboy out of Huntershall Orchid from Stephen Nixon, Wigton, which was knocked down to East Anglian Trailers, Colchester.

Garrowby Unique, a March 2023-born daughter of Grahams Rooney out of Gunnerfleet Munas from Garrowby Farm, sold for 7,500gns to Messrs Common, Hexham.

Averages: 33 senior bulls, £9,230.45; 37 intermediate bulls, £9,095.27; 18 junior bulls, £7,350; 88 bulls overall, £8,788.98; 11 females, £5,641.36.
