A RECORD entry was forward at this year’s Farmers Guardian-supported annual Partney Fair Show and Sale of breeding sheep and store lambs at Louth, where 1,381-head went under the hammer

Record sheep entry at Louth

 It was a Charollais cross Beltex ram from C. Wright, Hubberts Bridge, which led the trade at 980gns.

Others from D.R. and R. Burns, Melton Mowbray, topped at 900gns, C.S. Noble, South Somercotes, sold to 780gns and D.J. Summers, Somersby, sold for 740gns and 650gns on the day.

Judged by George Robinson and Keira Rhodes of Scrivelsby Farms, Horncastle, the champion breeding ram was found within the MV-accredited section, with a Texel cross Beltex shearling from T. Blythe, Wellingore, which realised 500gns.

The champion pen of eight Suffolk Mule shearlings from Woolhall Investments, Spalding, sold to £252 to top the section.

Suffolk half-breds from the same home sold to £250, while a run of Texel cross gimmers from Peter Robinson, Caistor, topped at £250, with W. Dixon and Son selling a pen to £235.

Store lambs sold to a high of £124/head for the third prize pen from Middleton Bros, Holton Holegate, with other from the same home topping at £121.50 and £121.

Others from J.W. English, Ashby-by-Partney, sold to £118, with M.A. and I.J. Brumby, Middle Rasem, selling to £109.

Averages -  Store lambs, £89.26; breeding ewes, £131.50; breeding rams, £528.86; gimmers, £202.81.
