Jeremy Clarkson's venture into farming has seen him buy a 9 tonne Lamborghini tractor boasting an impressive 48 gears and 188 buttons.

The television presenter claimed the £40,000 R8 270 DCR was ‘too big' for his barn, so he had to build a new one at his 1,000-acre spread in Oxfordshire.

"It is huge - even the front tyres are taller than me. You have to climb up a four-rung ladder to reach the door handle," he wrote in the Sunday Times.

"It is so vast, in fact, that it would not fit into my barn. I therefore had to build a new one."

Mr Clarkson admitted he also had to construct a new driveway in a bid to use the tractor, which cost in excess of £20,000, saying: "Farmers are quite right, it is too big. I have never been terrified at 25mph before, but in that tractor I really was."

But he added: "I admire the almighty roar from the vertical smokestack, which is a full seven inches in diameter.

"When I finish a field and I climb down the ladder and sit on a fence I have just broken to enjoy a bottle of beer and a chicken sandwich, I can look back at the work I have done and feel a tiny bit proud."

Last year the former Top Gear presenter was spotted buying North of England Mules at Thame Sheep Fair.

He recently opened up a new farm shop at the property in Chipping Norton, writing on his Instagram page all produce was 'guaranteed non-organic'.
