Farmer Christmas returns

‘Farmer Christmas’ is back for the second year running, as Morrisons reintroduce the festive hero as the face of their Christmas advert.Maisie Tinwell reports.

Making its first appearance on Good Morning Britain, the supermarket mogul debuted their festive food hero, described as a “grower, provider” and “lover” for the second time, with the advert also featuring a tractor instead of a sleigh, and real Morrison’s colleagues for elves.

Following the success of last year’s advert, Farmer Christmas has been integral to highlighting the great quality and value of Morrisons festive range, illustrating the work British farmers do to help make Christmas so special.

Responding to the recent cost of living crisis, Rachel Eyre, Morrisons chief customer and marketing officer, said: “We know that customers are having to manage their budgets closely at the moment, but they don’t want to compromise on the Christmas meal”. In an attempt to not make too many holes in anyone’s pocket, Mrs Eyre highlights that British produce doesn’t have to come with a large price tag.

“We’ve brought Farmer Christmas back this year to show them the food and great prices that, thanks to Morrisons foodmakers and farmers, will be available throughout the festive period, all stamped with his seal of approval.”

Other recent activities that have been introduced include Christmas products being on the shelves since mid-September to help customers spread the cost, cutting and freezing the price of 150 popular products, and the continuation of the Kids Eat Free All Day initiative in Morrisons cafs.

In coming days, they will also be releasing their new scheme, Morrisons Christmas Collector, which enables My Morrisons members to receive a significant festive money-off voucher if they meet the criteria and shop in the relevant weeks.

The 60 second advert followed Father Christmas proudly exclaiming that Morrisons is the ’only supermarket to be officially approved by me’, with the ‘Officially Approved By Farmer Christmas’ stamp seen throughout the festive campaign in store and across paid media.

He concludes by comically sitting at the head of the family’s table, a festive feast spread before him as he asks ’who’s got the gravy then?’
