With the spring season around the corner, Ash Burbidge caught up with a leading agronomist regarding potential issues growers might face.

Well, 2021 keeps dishing out the surprises to us and as the country eases itself out of lockdown, winter crops refuse to follow suit and have shown little signs of progression this last two weeks. Can we blame them for thinking we are still in the firm grips of winter?

Our winter crops were perking up nicely and spring drillings well set in decent seedbeds in the run-up to Easter only for everything to be stopped in its tracks by another spell of winter.

Happy New Year. I hope you all had some form of rest and normality over the festive period. Like many of you, I was happy to see the back of 2020 while filled with excitement for what the new year has in store for us. Well at this moment in time I am slightly concerned that 2021 is just 2020 reappearing in disguise.

Harvest is all but finished here in North Yorkshire, the last few stragglers of spring barley are to be mopped up while spring beans are just about ready to cut.  In all, yields are what we expected. Need I say any more?
