Oxfordshire County Council has become the first authority in England to ban meat from the menu, after voting to serve only vegan-friendly food at events.

The council leader at the centre of a row over plans to serve only plant-based menus at official events has hit back, saying it was the right thing to do in response to growing concerns regarding health and the environment.

Farming groups have reacted with anger following decisions to ban meat products from council and school menus.
