The Conservatives said they will close the ‘flag loophole' and make food origin labelling clearer so that consumers can be sure that they are buying food which is actually grown and produced in the UK by British farmers

Shadow Defra Secretary Victoria Atkins said: "We want to remove any price advantage for foreign producers from this ‘flag loophole', so we will close this loophole when we are back in Government. This is just one of the plans we are developing to help British food producers: making origin labelling clearer will help us all eat proper British food. Let’s eat for Britain!"

We should all eat British food whenever we can, so the Union Jack flag and ‘Made in the UK' on food labelling should mean exactly that. Currently, food grown overseas yet merely assembled or packaged...
