Welsh Assembly to investigate abattoir welfare standards
THE Welsh Assembly’s rural development sub-committee is carrying out an examination of animal welfare and meat hygiene standards at abattoirs and slaughterhouses in Wales.
The inquiry’s aim is to find out how effective current arrangements are and what, if anything, can be done to improve them.
To start with the committee is asking for evidence from as many people as possible connected with the industry.
Both written and oral submissions will then be used to scrutinise and make recommendations to the Assembly next year.
Anyone wishing to offer evidence to the inquiry can email ruraldev.comm@wales.gsi.gov.uk or write to: Rural Development Sub-Committee Clerk, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, CF99 1NA
Closing date is January 8.
