NFUS commends Lactalis price increase
CHEESE manufacturer Lactalis McLelland has been commended by NFU Scotland on its 1.23ppl, no strings attached milk price increase from November 1.
Announced last week, the increase now puts the firm among the best on price in the UK, particularly in the cheese sector.
“The outcome of the discussions between Lactalis and producer representatives demonstrates that professional and informed discussions that cover the short term challenges of the market and also take account of longer term strategies, can be successful,” said NFU Scotland milk policy manager George Jamieson.
“NFU Scotland has been actively promoting the urgent need for effective contracts, including pricing mechanisms and professional engagement between purchasers and producers for over a year now. The Lactalis situation is moving in the right direction, both parties are to be congratulated and we hope this development continues and spreads.”
