ABP further expands in southern England
LARRY Goodman’s Irish food group ABP has bought the RWM Food Group in south west England for an undisclosed sum.
ABP, the parent company of ABP UK, now has RWM’s beef and lamb processing facilities in Langport, Somerset and Yetminster, Dorset respectively. The Dorset plant also includes a retail packing operation.
RWM group procures beef and lamb directly from farmers and also has the cattle rearing and finishing company Blade Farming.
A spokesman for ABP said it would be ‘business as usual’ for the RWM businesses. And managing director of ABP’s UK operation, Tom Kirwan, said: “This is an important milestone in the development of ABP UK, augmenting its beef supply in the cattle rich south west region of England, and giving the business a platform in lamb to further develop its existing lamb processing activity in Northern Ireland.”
Romford Wholesale Meats is the founding company of the RWM group, owned by the Heffer family. Graham Heffer said: “The sale of RWM was taken after much consideration by the family. I am sure ABP UK will embrace the RWM ethos and help the business develop even further.”
