Target TB: Meet the farmers

MEET the three farmers Alistair Driver sat down with to talk about bovine TB.

Andrew Mycock milks 315 cows on 161 hectares (400 acres) between Bakewell and Buxton in the Peak District, selling around 30 fresh-calved heifers every year.

Currently still clear of bTB but he has gone from four-year testing to two-year and now one-year. Some neighbours have had herd breakdowns.

Lyndon Edwards is chairman of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers and runs an organic dairy farm on 202 hectares (500 acres) near Chepstow, in Gloucestershire, virtually on the Welsh border.

He has lost 90 cattle to bovine TB over the last five years - including 45 in one year.

Edward Dale is part of a farming family which milks 1,200 cows on four units in Cheshire, one of which is currently under restriction due to the discovery of one reactor.

A number of neighbouring farmers have also been affected recently.
