Three Counties to expand for 2010 show

NINE years on from the foot and mouth epidemic that wiped out its traditional complement of livestock competitions, Malvern’s Three Counties Show is expanding to accommodate more animals.

The region’s biggest showcase of British food, farming and countryside life is reversing the controversial decision of 2003 to reduce scheduled livestock classes from three days to two.

Following the demise of both the Royal Show and the West Mid Show, the Three Counties Agricultural Society says it is expecting an influx of new exhibitors at next year’s staging.

The Devon and British Blonde cattle breed societies have already confirmed they will be joining the Murray Grey Society in holding their national events during the June 18-20 show.

Organisers are predicting more will follow and are planning to erect two extra marquees to help with housing an anticipated growth in entries.

“We have weathered many storms in recent years, thanks in part to the continued loyalty of those who support the show year after year,” says the society’s Sharon Gilbert.

“We are confident the Three Counties Show will not only survive but become the premier agricultural event in the region and we are investing in its future.”

  • We exhibited for the first time at 3 counties this year, its a great show, well run with stewards that understand what it takes to get cattle to a show! Look forward to meeting new exhibitors next year, they will love the event!

  • We haven't shown the past two years because of the dreadful traffic chaos around the livestock sheds the year before. It took two hours in teeming rain to get from the vehicle park to the sheep marquee. Unless they can do something about the appalling access more livestock will just mean greater chaos.
