Scottish theme to Brown Swiss leading line-up
THE Scots dominated the Brown Swiss classes. Jonathan Lochhead of Mouswald, Dumfries, took the supreme championship and was given an honourable mention, having also bred the reserve, shown by Robert and Shelia McColm of Lochans, Stranraer.
Judge Kevin Thomas, of Tavernspite, West Wales, was full of admiration for his champion - Kedar Becks Alice, a five-year-old Kedar Becks daughter.
“She’s got everything you look for in a Brown Swiss,” said Mr Thomas, commenting particularly on her style and presence in the ring.
He gave the prize for best udder to his reserve champion, Kedar Special Melanie, saying she had the udder, but not the ‘style on parade’.
Alice calved for the third time in September, having given just over 9,000 litres in her second lactation at more than 3.6 per cent protein. She was breed champion at the 2009 Nantwich Show and best ‘any other breed’ at Dumfries.
