Royal Welsh Show organisers calm parking fears
LIVESTOCK exhibitors angry over cutbacks in allowable entry numbers and a shortage of showground caravan parking, have been assured moves are afoot to prevent future occurrences.
”Penning the ever-increasing number of animals and vehicles at Llanelwedd has proved especially difficult for this year’s show,” says the show’s honorary director, Harry Fetherstonhaugh.
“Exhibitors unsuccessful with requests are fairly unhappy.
“I sympathise, but we can only work with the available space and must conform absolutely to regulations over spacing of caravans and other lived-in vehicles. Otherwise, licences will be rescinded.
Administrative nightmare
“Some will say that record- breaking entries is a nice problem to have and I agree to a point – but fitting everything in is proving to be an administrative nightmare.
“I feel the society’s livestock committee will need to come up with a workable formula for cattle and sheep, and possibly pigs and goats, so that the number of entries corresponds to the finite space available for the sections.
“There is the suggestion there ought to be some form of qualification for stock entered.
“That is something considered many years back but for various reasons discounted, and I still fail to see how it could possibly work.”
