Plenty of awards outside the judging rings
OUTSIDE of the judging rings there were still plenty of awards up for grabs at AgriScot 2009.
- THE first ever Scottish dairy herd of the year title went to father and son team – Blair and Gregor Colquhoun, Dendoldrum, Inverbervie. All Scottish dairy farmers who milk recorded were automatically entered for this new competiton. The Colquhouns have a herd of around 350 pedigree Holsteins, which are milked either by four robots or through a conventional parlour.
- WINNERS of the first cut clamp silage competition were Arthur and Susan Laurie of Cuthill Towers, Kinross, Perthshire. Their winning sample had a DM of 25.8 per cent and an ME of 12.4. In the big bale silage section the winning sample came from R. and M. Struthers of Collielaw, Carluke, Lanarkshire. This sample had a DM of 33.1 per cent, an ME of 11.
- THE Virtual Cow from Holstein UK was awarded first prize in the new products competition. The interactive 3D version of the model cow was launched by the Society as part of the black and white breed’s centenary celebrations.
