Beltex reigns supreme at English Winter Fair
Andrew and Becky Bishop of Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, took the overall sheep title adding to their run of successes at recent winter primestock events.
Their winning pair of Beltex wethers lambs were by a home-bred tup and out of pure-bred dams.
Reserve prize went to a pair of pedigree Dutch Texels from Robin Slade of Pembridge, Herefordshire. The pair, weighed around 40kg, and were out of a home-bred tup.
Commenting on his top two placings judge, Stuart Clatworthy a farmer/butcher from Somerset, said there was nothing to chose between them but gave the advantage to the winners for their better hindquarters.
Mr Clatworthy later bought both pairs at £240 and £245 respectively.
The live pig section winner was Malcolm Hicks with a pair of Large White gilts. They were retained by the breeder.
