Thainstone ewes sell to a £172.50 top

THAINSTONE Centre, Inverurie, celebrated its 20th anniversary this week and last Friday the farming community defied the adverse weather to attend the mart’s weekly sale, which saw 385 store cattle and 758 store lambs and feeding ewes sold.

Sheep prices broke records with feeding ewes selling to a top of £172.50 and averaging £95 for the 555 sold.

The anniversary show and sale due to be held on Friday was postponed due to the weather and will now take place today (Friday, January 15).

Over the last 20 years, some 1.9m cattle and a staggering 6.9m sheep have been traded at Thainstone with a total of value of £1.25billion.

Auctioneers: Aberdeen and Northern Marts.
